Thanks for the replies. Two simultaneous keystokes will do a lot of things but they are not accidental.
The window closes when I'm using the mouse pad. And it never happens on any other website or with any standalone software. So I doubt it's my computer
and I doubt it's the client (browser) software. Could be a combination I suppose.
It is the Quick Reply window. It's like a submit with no post variables.
Los Frailes, are you tlaking about proggy fonts? Are they from my code text editor?

One other possibility is that your mouse pad has some shortcuts on it (if I tap mine in the top left corner) that close the window or make the browser
go "back." If I tap on my top right corner it goes forward.
You should check the settings on the notebook's mousepad preferences and see what shortcuts are set.

OLD HIPPIE,
I've not had it happen to me that I remember (I use IE).
But for longer postings, I always write them in Word and then copy and paste them. That allows me to spell check, save it, stop and restart, etc.
When adding pictures, I add the URL into the story before pasting to Nomad.

Just happened again tonight. I'm using IE7 and the bajanomad tab closed while writing a post. Poof, gone. I was high-lighting a sentence to move it
and while in the high-lighting process, dragging the cursor using the mousepad, the tab closed. I had four tabs open to four different websites. The
others did not close.
I know IE has a bad CSS implementation, does this website use CSS heavily?
P.S. It was exactly as though I used the Ctrl-W keyboard shortcut.

No, neither has it happened on another website nor running other apps. But it's my kitchen laptop, an old VAIO, top shelf in its day, someday I'll
have to get the chips and salsa out of the keyboard.
No big deal, just wondering if it is happening to others too.
If no one else is seeing it, then maybe I have a flakey mousepad.

this means nothing in the scheme of the world, but it ****** me off to no end!
seems whilst typing on nomad i will try to flex a third or fouth digit on my left hand and since it is not a well co-ordinated maneuver sometimes
(when a window closes mysteriously) i'm in the midst of a semi thought-out reply,,,,,my window reloads........it's enough to make a grown man get up
from the keyboard and drain his main vein, to make his bladder gladder......SABE'??????

Had it happen several times. I think it happens when trying to capitalize a letter and hitting "Ctrl" instead of "Shift" by accident.
Ctrl-w will close explorer. Ctrl-R will reload the page with the post gone, apparently forever. There are probably other Ctrl-(Letter) combinations that will do unintended things as well.....Those are simply two I know about.
I have taken to writing any long posts in Word first and then copying to BN.

i think you have a corrupt windows file
it probably happened in an automatic windows update
go back to a day that it wasn't happening and
do a mirror back up for THAT day...
it's in your windows utility
then when windows updates
it will up to date to the correct version

It's happened to me numerous times, and frustrating is an understatement!!!! It usually happens when the 'fingers' get ahead of the brain. Then I
suddenly realized that it didn't completely disappear, but ended up "going down to the bottom' for some reason. Now I look there first before
starting over again. One of lifes 'little mysteries' that I experience everytime I sit down with my computer.

Mike Humfreville told me that is why he always put his stuff on Windows Word then posted it.
We all know how long winded he could be (Mike's words, and I agree), I always printed out his posts of interest so I could read them in bed (like a
novel)

When I saw the title of the thread I was going to suggest that you may have ghosts; but, since it is computer related.. you may have gremlins instead.
I've had it happen to me sometimes on my PC. For me, the main cause has been an accidental keystroke(s) somewhere near the right side of my spacebar
as has been suggested here before.
I know it "shouldn't happen", but it does. I wouldn't rule it out so easily.
I am assuming that you have checked your computer for malware, etc..?
Otherwise.. save or "copy" long posts to your clipboard occasionally as a rudimentary backup.

Yes, it's probably a combo of a sensitive mouse pad, which is the way I like it, and a smallish keyboard.
I was curious so I verified in a code editor the HTML page, the CSS, the embedded javascripts, and the .js file this website makes available. No big
problems. Nicely hand crafted stuff, a little light on programmer comments. The </INPUT> tags are unusual. I'm going to use the bbcode
javascripts.
I'm writing this in notepad.

Someone else was mentioning to me the Window closing by itself issue and pointing me back to this thread....
So, in looking up issues with Internet Explorer having windows closing themselves, it's likely caused by third-party software (say like Google or
Yahoo toolbar, etc), or incompatibilities those are having, etc.
From another website:
Quote: |
Use the usual methods to identify the third-party software that produces
your problem:
1. run IE with "No Add-Ons"
2. disable third-party extensions in Internet Options/Advanced
3. boot Windows in safe mode
If any or a combination of the above solves your problem there is
third-party software responsible for your problem.
If 1.: use Add-Ons-Manager and disable all non-Microsoft add-ons and
reenable them step-by-step until your problem comes back
If 2.: that's likely a toolbar or some other installable add-on
If 3.: that's likely a third-party software run from startup that can but
doesn't need to have "visible" connections to IE, for instance a so-called desktop search. |

Happens at least once per session on Nomad... I will be reading or ready to post something and whooosh, Nomad is gone and my desktop is there... I
just click Nomad on my browser and Nomad pops right back up... But this is a new issue that started happening in the past couple of months or so...
