What are those bumper stickers, something like "My savior is a Jewish Carpenter"...I just about crashed the truck laughing when I saw a bumper sticker saying "Jesus is my gardener"

And don't forget Mohammed.

There's a woman in the Sudan that's about to get 50 lashes for naming her teddy bear Mohammed.

But that's a bit different. ... and not.

Jesus is foreman on my new home. Neighbor and I shared Jesus and crews.

When I greeted Jesus for first time in neighbor's presence, she was surprised, because she only referred to him as Chuy. She said, "We don't call him Jesus. We call him god."

2 weeks later, Jesus lost his home in a propane explosion and fire. Luckily, he and his family were not at home that sunday afternoon, 8/19/07.

Community pitched in, and his life got back to normal quickly. That neighbor and her husband contributed BIG to assist with new home.

Need to get better pic, but, Jesus is on the business end of the cement delivery of my first floor in late April on this photo:

In Ecuador I have met people with first names like Edison, Washington, and Hitler. It seems that there is a portion of the populace that has a penchant for foreign names of some noteriety,be it good or "bad".

About no kids named Odin: I have noticed how some people in America with European backgrounds have abandoned their heritage as far as naming their children. I know of people here in America of Mexican descent who name their sons Xavier, Jacinto, Guadelupe, and so on. But why aren't there any people here named Sven, Lars, Helmut, Wido, Gwijde, Zikmund, Zygmunt, and so on? Do they just not want to flaunt it?

And about the giant Jesus in Baja Norte, who put it there and why? What denomination is behind it?

And at further risk of hijacking: Here is a very interesting site with a European name translation table. http://www.tacitus.nu/historical-atlas/regents/names.htm

Toll Road Jesus?

As the story goes, a private citizen who made lots of money selling his land in the area and was thankful for his good fortune, paid for the statue.

Why no kids named Odin ?
For the same reason I mentioned in a previous post.
Because Jesus, in the old world, was looked upon as a God like creature, on the same level as Poseidon, Zeus, Odin, Rah, etc. No problem naming your offspring after the apostles though. They became among the most common names around the world.

"The Vikings"

If you were a grade schooler in 1959 this was THE movie to see. I don't know how many of us threw ourselves down the front steps of Cahuenga grammar school clutching our imaginary swords and shouting "Odin" to the heavens above.

And what about that Viking burial. No wussy Christian burial for these guys. You went out in a blaze of glory. Floating out to sea in a blazing viking boat as your kinsman shot blazing arrows into it. Now that's the way we all wanted to go.

Regarding the Jesus on the toll road (this is a baja website I keep reminding myself) - I like it. All except for the rotating flashing light on his head. That's got to go. They got to utilitarian with that addition and it greatly diminishes the whole thing.

Bringing it back to your post.

If you haven't seen this flick, and I'm sure you have, rent yourself and the kids 'Stand By Me'. It's hard to believe that we actually thought like them. It will take you back to your youth and make you realize things haven't changed that much.

But it's this exchange I want to share with you. It takes place between Vern (the chubby one) and Teddy (the one with the glasses) as they walk down the railroad tracks.

Vern Tessio:
You think Mighty Mouse could beat up Superman?

Teddy Duchamp:
What are you cracked?

Vern Tessio:
Why not?! I saw the other day he was carrying five elephants in one hand.

Teddy Duchamp:
Boy you don't know nothing. Mighty Mouse is a cartoon. Superman is a real guy. No way a cartoon could beat up a real guy.

Vern Tessio:
Yeah, maybe you're right. Would be a good fight, 'though.

I can remember when I thought superman was a real guy. We never saw him because he lived in America. I was 8 at the time.

Yeah, great movie. That actually reminds me of an obscure short from years back, "Bambi Meets Godzilla." Courtesy of YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXCUBVS4kfQ

Nena and Pompano, I think you should move this discussion to the hijacking of threads thread!

By the way, seen any good movies lately?

Nah..........Mike and the other pilots will be drawn to the light of Jesus' head like moths to flame. Could be spectacular........maybe like the second coming.

Names: Whatever happened to Ole? He was always good for hoisting a few...

Oh, and what about Moses? He used to hang out in deserts somewhat like Baja. :?::saint:
