Well, in all honesty, the northern version of the Gazette was pretty lame. They should have the style of the southern and all would be fine.

Bummer. Her paper was the perfect size for the bottom of our parrot cage. Gracie loved to **** all over it.

I read last year that THE NEWS, an English Language newspaper out of Mexico City was starting up again after years of not publishing. It used to be distributed widely throughout the mainland. I am wondering if it couldn't be distributed in Ensenada. Maybe even with a Baja Norte stringer reporting.:?:

There is at least one or two interesting articles (even though the reporters are too cutsie) in each issue..... and I have their telephone dialing guide on my fridge.

Nancy,

If you are reading this I am very sad and disappointed that you are deciding not to carry on. It was always a fascinating read and I was often in awe at your bravery in publishing some of the stories. Have you thought about selling it, or even allowing somebody else to edit it?

Mike.

Nancy Conroy's "Statement from the editor" was anything but fun. Invariably it was an indictment of the scummy power barons of the region, Torres in particular. She had the balls to confront them knowing from the outset that power would prevail. She knew she couldn't last, let alone win. There was nothing to win. She was just stateing OUR case as a good attorney and journalist is trusted to do. We have to appreciate that.
Now, that voice has been silenced. Conroy loses something but, we lose everything. We lose our voice. Torres wins.
For expats in Baja, our foundation gets more tenuous each day.

Yup, for our area the GGN was our only reliable (and I'll use that term LOOSELY) source of real news of what was happening in Mex. Even the daily Mexican newspapers are lacking seriously for news...the GG was never the NY TImes but it gave us the real happenings in the area. And a bigger loss is the ads; if you're looking for something -- go to the GG (classifieds and display)....You can do whatever you want with the paper, but WE will miss it.

You know I really don't know what to say here...I have a hard time when faced with someone giving up...it is not very likely and surely not a human trait...I think her life or some kind of major threat has been made...to the extent she must claim it was her idea too survive.
I think we as a group should send Torres a message...How? The pulse in Baja...it is quickly becoming internet searches...Baja Nomads surely come up very often. If we tell him we will never give up, and will work diligently to make people, that come to our site, understand that Rosarito is a corrupt, dangerous place, not fit to visit or live in. We all have connections with other sites and could list them...
Anyone ready to do this in Spanish?

Zeta is the best selling newspaper in Tijuana and the most fair and trustworthy for the past 20 years because it combines facts and reality with interesting stories that people want to read each week. When ever i visited up north i would read the northern Gazette and compared with the southern, it was just not as good.

I guess what i am saying is that yes, maybe she provided some interesting truth, but it wasnt packaged very well, and thats why it had to go.

Lets sleep on this one, Al. Tomorrow we can try to understand why she quit. She knows what she's doing and wouldn't want us to interfere at this time.
I think you have a good idea.

Zeta and the Gringo Gazette were never meant to be competitors. Zeta is a highly respected newspaper with a highly respected staff, past and present. Blancornelas was one of the very best as was his partner Hector Felix.

The GG was meant to lightly inform and entertain, fun as you previously stated. It wasn't until the corruptness of the area overwhelmed the editor, Nancy Conroy, that she started to comment on issues that affected the whole community, Americans included. She pointed out corrupt real estate dealers and scam businesses. It turned into a head-to-head confrontation between her and the number one offender, Torres. Now he's mayor with more power.

Conroy has wisely opted out. Hector Felix should have done the same thing but his enemys murdered him before he could.

One more thing......I apologize for not having good to perfect Spanish but, that's what I would need to read Zeta. I struggle with reading it anyway and appreciate its journalistic value although it's not a publication which I can comfortably read in the bathroom.
I can do that with the Gringo Gazette. Now, I'll have to go back to Bernies books.
No offense, Bernie.

Gringo Gazette - Nancy Gone...

Contrary to popular opinion here, the Gringo Gazette is NOT gone. Nancy Conroy is gone. Also contrary to popular belief here, she was NOT run out of town by the Torres group.

The Gringo Gazette will continue to be published by its legitimate owner, Carrie Duncan who also owns the southern edition. Nancy didn't leave for "professional" or "personal" reasons. She left for "legal" reasons. Nancy used to be a partner with Carrie and according to court papers filed by Carrie, Nancy fraudulently took the northern paper from her. Nancy of course denied it and it has been in the courts for the last 4 years or so. Well the courts finally awarded the paper to Carrie and I'll just let that fact speak for itself. Bye Bye Nancy!!!

Don't believe everything you read folks...
