Coming down Matomi wash was a well treat for a long ride, beautifull bolders, and rock formations every where.
it's about 30 miles +/- from Matomi down the wash to Mex 5,soft sand all the way.

Thanks Chuck for the outstanding accomodations and Will for taking the point on the trip! It was a great weekend and the desert was beautiful. An excellent gathering of Nomads. Met a bunch of folks who used to be screen names. The wildflowers were plentiful and the cactus looked pretty happy to have had all the recent moisture.

We headed south to camp at a small bay 6-7 miles south of Puertecitos, then on the next day to hike up La Turquesa canyon. After a pretty thorough slog up the canyon west of the mine sites, it looked like the only real way to connect to the Highway 1 spur was on a stout dirt bike. Saw ATV tracks and moto tracks, but every possible truck or jeep path we scouted petered out. It's possible we missed something. Went on to Coco's, then El Principio on the road into San Borja to scout a section of the Camino Real. Overlaying our findings with some Google Earth images will tell how successful we were there. Home through El Rosario, Ensenada & Tecate.

Thanks all!

The "we" in TacoFeliz's post included Neal Johns and Dixie Dog Johns. Ditto on Chuck's hospitality and all the hard work the ladies did in preparing the feast.

Speaking of ladies, I just could not resist acquiring a couple of new WiW's. One of them (who shall remain nameless) really screwed me up. She screamed "He said I'm really Number One!" This no doubt, will come back to haunt me.:no:

Gadget let us to the promised land and back without a single wrong turn. I did learn not to trust a Pre-Runner's slow pace, however. My poor old Tilt'n Hilton Pop-Top is still hobby horsing over the whoopties in my dreams. On our way south, we split off and Jay (TacoFeliz) led. Did he slow down?; Noooo! He was infected by Gadget's disease.:lol:

Thanks Neal,
Note the average speed in the dirt of 19.4 mph. Pretty slow for us as our averages are usually around 35 mph or so.
The Gadget mobile aka GSB is really my idea of a vehicle version of a swiss army knife. We like doing many varried things and so I have tried to build a rig that can do alot of things pretty good.
We tow a pop up tent trailer for surf trips so suspension can't be to squishy.
We like to pre-run and keep up with way more hi-tech rigs than us so it's has enough travel, brut strength and power for that.
We like to do some crawling and jeep type stuff if we can fit on the trail so its pretty flexy.
And we sure had fun slowing way down and enjoying the beautiful scenary with all of you.
If we need to go slower on the next one I'll put BajaLeti behind the wheel. She loves to co-dog but is terrified of getting behind the wheel still. She doesn't want to test out the cage I guess.

Gadget, I'm curious. How much does GSB weigh unloaded? What's the wheelbase?

With 2 spares, 33 gal of gas and 205lb me, its 5,901lbs.
Bronco standard wheel base of 105" I believe.

Thanks - sounds like you have built quite the vehicle there. I am particularly impressed with "keeping up much higher tech pre-runners".

I had a hard time trying to keep up with GADGET, with my Stoock RAM. HEMI and all.

Off-road, the limiting factor is suspension, not power. There is no stock truck in the world that could even begin to keep up with, say a 5/1600 car (basically a buggy with a 1600 CC VW engine and GOOD suspension).

No vehicles on that run except motos & quads would have any chance of keeping up with Gadget if he wanted to move out a little. It's a great setup for what he likes to do.
