So this Mushroom walks into a bar, sits down and orders a cold one.
The Bartender says, "We don't serve your kind here, get out!"
And the Mushroom says....
"But, I'm a fun guy"
Truth generally lies in the coordination of antagonistic opinions

(from Bonni)
Hello Nena-
Yes, that is a "fresher" Podaxis pistillaris, compared to the one initially pictured, which has a dried, burnished character. The very freshest ones
are still supple and are creamier in color with tan shingles/scales on the cap.
Besides being known as burro snot (at least around Bahia de LA), the same fellow who told me that also said burros munch them when fresh. I can
believe it, seeing what else they eat in the desert.
I may ask to lift your photo for the museum archives as an FYI. Can you tell me what time of year it was fruiting and which year?? Thanks.

Bonni -
That photo was taken 19 Feb 2004, outside Mulege as we headed toward the Valle Trinidad to see the cave paintings.
Of course you may take it for the museum archives.
If you pass your curser over the image, right click, go to properties, you'll see the pbase address of the photo. I believe you can download it
directly from there. If that doesn't work, send me a u2u with your private email address and I'll send it to you there. And hey, thanks for asking.
hmmmm..... burros snot.

Yep, Sharksy, I've got a pretty good eye for 'shrooms. Grew up hunting morels in the wilds of northwest Illinois with my grandma... been looking down
ever since. Many interesting items down there.

Thanks Nena, from Bonni--
I lifted the image just fine using the right clicker.
Funny you mentioned NW Illinois--not far away I attended NIU in DeKalb and always enjoyed the northern Illinois and Wisconsin woods growing up in a
camping family.
