My father in law opened the first KFC here in Ensenada as well as Mazatlan. I hear the current KFC in Ensenada is terrible.

I couldn't agree more. I would add....why would anyone go to a USA chain place IN THE USA as well, when there are so many great independent restaurants.

Larry,
I will give you one reason why... and, if it weren't for this I would never look for US food while traveling outside the country.

My wife and I just got back from almost four weeks in Thailand and Cambodia. I must admit that after about two weeks of eating Thai food - we were really hankering for a hamburger! Well, we found the perfect spot and placed our order. It was absolutely fantastic! We did it one more time during our 7 day stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia - again, a wonderful burger was consumed by both of us!

But, that's the only reason I would do it.

KM 103.5, Transpeninsula Hwy, El Sauzal

The food is great... the owner delightful... and the Art & Stuff Gallery above the restaurant has great stuff... Check them both out!

The Manzana bees sucks. Ditto on the I don't care attitude and overpriced bad food. Stopped there last year around this time. Losts of rigs comming back from the Baja Mil.
People mostly went in to get a drink and use the head.

Any restaurant that seems to try and compete with Denny's, I give a wide berth.

Although I have had a few friends insist that the Denny's Diners (their supposed upscale version) are pretty good.

Yum to Ophelia. The only US chain I LOVE is Calif. Pizza Kitchen: especially thai chicken pizzas. That competes even with the swapmeet pizza in Maneadero...

The Applebee's in La Paz is expensive, service is poor and food is below average. Big mistake; make sure you eat at a local eatery and not a chain!

Going to an Applebee's in Baja is equivalent to going to a Taco Bell in San Ysidro IMHO...

And you think a Taco Bell in Mexico would be better?

Both Applebee's and Taco Bell appeal to the lowest common denominator, regardless of where located.

What I can't fathom here is the lack of diversity. It's tacos, tacos and more tacos. Even in small U.S. towns you're apt to find a choice of cuisine.

I mean...I like Mexican food, but every friggin day?
