I believe you're right Bwana. Knew it wasn't exactly like the parrot fish I see when snorkeling but couldn't remember the name.....dt

Here's another angle of my Parot/Hogfish. All the Parot fish I looked up have teeth like a trigger. This is way different so I'm going to call it a
Hogfish too.

Definite hogfish. Close relative to the sheephead. No relation to the parrot fish.

Hogfish, sheepshead, and parrotfish are all wrasses. They are related to one another.

I didn't either until recently.
The wrasse family of fish has got to be one of the most successful and most ubiquitous group of fish in the world. We (Americans) are just too far up
north to have noticed this 'cause they seem to inhabit mostly tropical waters. But when you look at the tropical fish tanks in, say, the Monterey Fish
Aquarium most of the fish are either wrasses or triggerfish. At least that's how it seems. All those small 'cleaner fish' you see in Natl. Geo. that
enter those large mouths of snappers and groupers (those small neon blue little guys) are wrasses.

Woody, if you tell me where you caught these there might be an East Cape fishing trip in it for you. I promise not to make a significant dent in the
local croaker population...dt
