Oh, Please. Who, after a tired drive, is going to check the pedigree of the owner of the motel that has hot water and clean sheets?

David, it really is a matter of opinion. Not everyone loves El Rosario---I find it OK, but it is not one of my favorite places---why would you say it was only his attitude?? No, his opinion.

For many, many years we have used the Pemex in El Rosario --long before there was a Baja Nomads, and still do, but try to use the bathrooms elsewhere. For years, they were the best----not any more.

Baja Cactus---still a nice place, except as of a few weeks ago, the last time we were there, they were refilling their complimentary lotion and shampoo bottles---something I find offensive---don't offer them. We never use them, but picked up the lotion bottle, the top fell off as it was overfilled, so we looked at the shampoo bottle---seal broken.

Also, they are not up front about the lack of internet---happened last two time. Lady says yes there is internet, but later when I inquired why I could hook up to the network, but there was no internet, she said, oh no, the internet is not working here---you need to go next door. No internet, no problem, just say so when asked about it upon checking in.

Now, I U2Ued Antonio about these things---no response which was disappointing.

There are places in El Rosario where we like to eat and think that Baja Bed and Breakfast is one of the WORST. But others like it.

Again, it is a matter of opinion----you really like El Rosario, great, but not everyone does. We love Bahia Asuncion, and have had people there who could not wait to leave.

Promote the places YOU like and use, but please allow others to have their opinions and to express them.

Haven't seen our first time driver back here yet, hope we didn't scare her off...

There are these really cool abbreviations, like...
lol
roflmao
ttf
(we all know what those are)

and my favorites-

imo = in my OPINION
jmho = just my humble/honest OPINION

good tags to add to things like "...IMO, the best restaurant in XXX is....."

ask 10 Nomads, get 10 right answers:biggrin:

when we drove through el rosario last year it was about three weeks after the horrible shooting/murder at the cute little roadside stand...we filled up at the cactus station and everyone had that "deer in the headlights" look...i chatted with the attendant and he was afraid to talk to me..but he whispered things like "the only time anyone comes out of their house is just to go to work and back"..or, "my wife and kids are not allowed to go out at any time"...all the while his head was snapping back and forth like someone was gonna mow him down on the spot...i was ready to leave ...and don't bother topping it off...whatever

If you`re heading south and crossing in San Ysidro, don`t wait until 6 PM!!!
I came northbound tonight and couldn`t believe the traffic jam getting into Mexico!! Had to be at least 1/2 mile long, with 8 lanes coming together for probably 3 lanes in! One hour easy!!
I`ve done many a crossing in my life but tonight was the worse I`ve ever seen going into Mexico!!

If you encounter a group of inebriated Mexican men and you're all alone - move on. Don't make small talk. If in a car then keep driving.

Nothing will probably ever happen to you but this is probably the most dangerous situation for a young female tourist. They know they can get away with it because nobody knows you down there in the countryside. Nobody will take your word for what happened.

Paulina gives sound advice. We're two different cultures. What we view as being friendly some Mexicans interpret as a 'come on'.

In a previous post, JDTrotter (Diane) said the following:

"Baja Cactus---still a nice place, except as of a few weeks ago, the last time we were there, they were refilling their complimentary lotion and shampoo bottles---something I find offensive---don't offer them. We never use them, but picked up the lotion bottle, the top fell off as it was overfilled, so we looked at the shampoo bottle---seal broken"

This statement tells me volumes about your sensitivities, Diane, and I now better understand better why you make the comments you often do. Nothing wrong with that, but it is so different than me------It would never occur to me to be upset about "refilling the lotion and shampoo bottles" at a motel------actually, I thought most motels did that, but I really never asked or paid much attention.

It just points out how different we are----- we all are so different-----and convinces me more and more to just go with the flow and not be offended by what others say, or do. Very few people, I believe, are really out to be mean, or to offend-------they are just trying to be helpful, in their own way.

It is all very interesting (to me) how we all react to each other, and to what we read-------.

I doubt it. We often stay in motels in Baja and other places that others would run from----cobwebs, leaking pipes, etc. We often say about places, it is what it is and if the bed is somewhat OK, and if the water is sometimes hot, that is good. Well, we have also stayed in many in Mexico and Central America with cold water only.

It really is not about sensitivities, it is about being dishonest. Well, I guess that is a sensitivity---I am sensitive to dishonesty and deception.

NOW I am REALLY confused---------you are blowing out of the water all my well thought out conclusions---------EVERYBODY is sensitive to "dishonesty and deception"----------I fail to see "dishonesty and deception" in the things you appear to get upset about.

Maybe (obviously) it's just me-------------:?:

I withdraw my conclusions in dismay------------

To lovebahia22- I apologize for hijacking the thread. A number of folks have posted some very good advice, especially for a female traveling in a different culture. I guess I have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to the unsolicited "pitching" of individual businesses. My bad. Hope you have a great trip. And, I still don't see that you actually shared just how far you are planning to travel South.

Wow... this is hard to believe you would make up such a story Diane... why?

The little comp. shampoo bottles hold just enough for one or maybe two uses... there is no room to refill, let alone time expense... they are sealed bottles... as well. Are you saying that his trained staff goes through the waste basket and pulls out empty or used shampoo bottles? Man, this is something out of CNN or MSNBC! Would you use a personal care product in a motel from a broken seal bottle, anyway?

There is full time staff to keep the Pemex station bathroom clean... if they fail Antonio wants us to tell him, as he lives 220 miles away and can't be there everyday.

Baja's Best is totally remodeled and the food has always been good... if you don't like the relaxed 'Baja style' atmosphere there... then I suggest Cabo.

There is no comparison to Asuncion... apples and oranges. Asuncion has one retaurant with two items on their menu (meat or fish)... it was good, but one place compared with a dozen in Rosario? That was 2 years ago, maybe the menu has grown or there is another place?

I would drive out there for Shari's sashimi/ sushi anyday!

There is good and not so good everywhere... I just don't think you need to make a place sound gross like you just did.

As for u2u unanswered... Have you seen Antonio post here lately? Try his email instead... or call him (leave a message at the motel's phone).
