Does anyone know if there's a way to make a reservation?

As far as I know, they do not have a website. And even their listing on Bajaexpo.com is without a phone number. Shari would be the closest with any
current info. Our own personal experience was that when we arrived there around 4:30, we were the only guests. a couple of hours later, it was full.
So, I'm guessing that if you expect to hit town late, you may have to stay elsewhere. I guess an 8-10 room hotel doesn't need to advertise or be
accessible. Just across the street is Los Caracoles. They have a web site and phone. Just in case you need to feel that you have some place to stay.
In my opinion, except for Caracoles having a much more professional lobby/ office, the rooms and rates are just about the same.

Just back from GN...an outstanding couple of days!!!!!!
I had a school group coming in and went to Cowboy Motel to see if they had a big room for the group because it was cold and windy for camping at the
lagoon. Chavelo, the owner was fantastic...extremely accomodating and gave em a deal. They have 2 "family" rooms of 3 queen beds and a hide-a bed for
650 pesos. All rooms were beautiful, nice furniture, very clean and friendly.
The restaurant is now open for breakfast and we LOVED the food and new breakfast chef they have is excellent and fast and smiley
the machaca was delicious...good service too.
We discussed the importance of having a website...he is working on it. Chavelo is a success story...started with a torta/sandwhich cart and now has a
top notch hotel...he doesnt have alot of capital or technical expertise with promotions but I'm gonna help him get something going and for now you can
contact me and I can make your reservations by calling him.
they filled up the night we were there too.
He also runs tours to the whale lagoon...his whale package is $100 for a room for the night, full breakfast, salt works tour, whale tour...he takes
you in his van to the lagoon and is great because he used to run the lagoon tours there himself....you can also hang around the lagoon a bit longer
than with the other busier bus tours who rush you along in and out. This area of the lagoon they go to is special as it has the Interpretive Centre,
restaurant, campground so you can enjoy lunch after whale watching if you want to stay in the lagoon a bit longer and watch whales from shore. It's a
great deal and more personal service than other providers.
Chavelo went out of his way for our group and it was a very pleasant experience.

Shari,
You are right about that being a special place to view whales. You can easily fill an hour or two walking along the lagoon looking at the birds and
whales from shore. The restaurant there serves good food too.
How was the whale watching this trip?

whale trip was....well in over 25 years of hangin with whales, it was way up there on best trips EVER...I'll do a trip report when I have time...I'm
still trying to digest all the crazy stuff that happened in that magical 2 hours.
One observation...it was VERY quiet out there for height of the season...only a couple cars...only a few whale watchers...we were the only boat out
when we went...another later boat only had 2 people on it too. It has been a real slow season and now with all the rain, even slower as folks think
the roads are impassable. The whales seem pretty darn happy!

As I mentioned before, Chavelo is not in the same financial league as Los Caracoles or Malarrimo...which is why I try to help him out, but he is open
to feedback and wants to improve his services.
The phone # at the hotel is 615-157-2765 but they do not speak english so I can call for a reservation if you dont speak spanish.

Thanks for the info, Shari. I've mentioned it before, but once again, Chavelo's place is one of the more architecturally pleasing and inviting in the
whole town. Any idea when he may build-out the rest of the hotel? Looks like there's space for maybe 3-4 more rooms.

He had 12 rooms done yesterday...so the new rooms are open now...as many projects here...more to follow when the economy allows...but he sure is on
the right track.
