Thanks Bob... here is the text from your link:
.Tsunami Warning in Hawaii People Urged to Move to Higher Ground
.
A tsunami warning has been issued for all the coasts of Hawaii, as an aftereffect of the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that shook Chili in the early
morning hours of February 27, 2010. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a warning that the first tsunami waves are expected to reach Hawaii
at 11:19 Pacific Standard Time, which is 4:19 EST.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is calling for urgent action to protect lives and property in Hawaii. There is also a tsunami warning for the coast
of California and Alaska, but the warning is at a lower level than the warning for Hawaii.
According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, tsunamis that affect Hawaii originate from distant sources where tectonic plates are in collision. A
tsunami that originates in Chile takes about ten hours to get to Hawaii.
Officials in Hawaii will sound the warning whistles at about 6:00 AM Pacific Time. People in areas that are predicted to be high risk will be urged to
leave their homes and business and move to higher ground, or evacuate to safety. The tsunami should reach Hawaii at about 11:19 AM PST. The tsunami
could cause damage to property along coastlines of all islands in the State of Hawaii. Urgent action is being taken to protect lives and property in
Hawaii.
A tsunami is a series of long ocean waves. Each individual wave crest can last 5 to 15 minutes and flood coastal areas. The danger can continue for
many hours after the initial wave. The height of the tsunami waves cannot be predicted and the first wave may not be the largest. Tsunami waves can
wrap around islands, so all shores are at risk no matter which direction they face. Debris picked up and carried by the tsunami wave can increase the
destructive power of the wave.

Thanks BajaGuy! I am in Oceanside (San Diego County), but not on the coast... none-the-less, I am concerned for anyone living near sea-level... it is
a full moon!
Here is some of that link, of concern:
THERE IS NO TSUNAMI WATCH OR WARNING IN EFFECT AT THIS TIME FOR THE EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA COAST.
HOWEVER...DANGEROUS CURRENTS AND SURGES ARE POSSIBLE IN HARBORS AND BAYS. THIS THREAT IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN AROUND 1202 PM PST TODAY.
COASTAL RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO STAY OUT OF THE WATER...OFF THE BEACH...AND AWAY FROM HARBORS AND MARINAS. WAVE HEIGHTS AND CURRENTS ARE AMPLIFIED BY
IRREGULAR SHORELINE AND ARE DIFFICULT TO PREDICT. THE INITIAL WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST. LATER WAVES MAY BE LARGER. MARINERS IN WATER DEEPER THAN
600 FEET SHOULD NOT BE AFFECTED.

All kidding aside, I've been watching reports on CNN. This is a major disaster, similar to Haiti. Let's hope the tsunami damage is minimal.

I suggest high ground for those in low lying areas. Better safe than sorry.

SEA LEVEL READINGS CONFIRM THAT A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED

A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE
LARGEST. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND CAN VARY
SIGNIFICANTLY ALONG A COAST DUE TO LOCAL EFFECTS. THE TIME FROM
ONE TSUNAMI WAVE TO THE NEXT CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO AN HOUR, AND
THE THREAT CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AS MULTIPLE WAVES ARRIVE.
FOR ALL AREAS - WHEN NO MAJOR WAVES ARE OBSERVED FOR TWO HOURS
AFTER THE ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL OR DAMAGING WAVES HAVE NOT
OCCURRED FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS THEN LOCAL AUTHORITIES CAN ASSUME
THE THREAT IS PASSED. DANGER TO BOATS AND COASTAL STRUCTURES CAN
CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS DUE TO RAPID CURRENTS. AS LOCAL
CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE A WIDE VARIATION IN TSUNAMI WAVE ACTION THE
ALL CLEAR DETERMINATION MUST BE MADE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES.
BULLETINS WILL BE ISSUED HOURLY OR SOONER IF CONDITIONS WARRANT.
THE TSUNAMI WARNING WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Is there an area more southwest in California than San Diego? Wonder what they mean by that. We should also be careful not to quote and repost old
tsunami information from previous posts. I just did that too. Keep everything as current and as close to real-time as possible until it passes by us
at least. two hours to go...

So now the eyes turn to Hawaii. Plenty of time to prepare there. Bet every camera on the island will be live on CNN when it arrives there.
I do like the Tsunami warnings and get the automated e-mail alerts (usually treated as spam). I do wish it was more actionable- a list of coastal
cities with the local impact time would be helpful. I know the format is for scientists- but everyone talked about the surge coming- but nobody said
exactly when to pop the beer open and watch. (Except for Hawaii)

"WAVE HEIGHTS AND CURRENTS ARE AMPLIFIED BY IRREGULAR SHORELINE AND ARE DIFFICULT TO PREDICT."
this is the part that bugs me....looks like word is spreading...now some people who have homes at the beach are beginning to move stuff and cars to
higher ground, pulling pangas out of the water...just in case.
Probably out of beer in Tofino now...Port Alberni residents are a little nervous I bet.

it is interesting to see the different wave heights in different areas...looks like the open pacific islands get a much bigger wave...times are
zulu..i think we are 7 ours earlier here in mountain time zone...I think these posts I am receiving are real time as the bouys record changes in sea
levels...these buoys are in the ocean so it will be interesting to see for example how a 0.9' affects the beach....looks like the Marquesas got a bit.

It was interesting watching the pangas getting pulled out at BA, I guess I'd better get my ass off this exposed beach and back up the hill. Zero hour
is a couple minutes.

I got a call this morning from my son who lives in Maui. He said the tsunami sirens went off at 5:30 this morning and everyone was told to head for
higher ground. Not surprizingly, he also said it looked like a disaster movie with incredibly long lines at the gas stations and grocery stores.
They expect the tsunami to hit around 1:20 PST. I'm glued to the TV waiting for further news

I was in Hawaii in 1961 during a "Tidal Wave Alert." That's what they called it. When the word went out, people everywhere were loading their cars
with bird cages and clothes and heading for the hills.
The Wave never got there, but ironically it rained six inches in twelve hours over night. What a mess.
