Sure Blanca - find/get/create a picture that you want as your avatar, crop to the correct size, put it on a hosting server (like photobucket or facebook), link to that through your control panel on BN and wa-la your done.

If you need help with the picture editing, send me a u2u and I'll give you my email and help you out that way.

Have a great day.

so..... I have both fb and photobucket so I posted a photo to photobucket but I don't understand the next step - just copying the "image" into baja nomad edit for avatar did not work ...

In Photobucket - on your album, below the picture you want as your avatar you should see an option for "share" - click that, then choose get link code (from the menu tabs that appear), click on IMG, close, return to your album and below your picture you will see the code. Copy and then paste that code into your control panel on BN. Good luck.

Edited to say that you must use the Direct link code, not the IMG code in Photobucket. (sorry for the confusion).:bounce:

After you upload to photobucket, put your cursor over the picture and a menu should pop up on the top of the picture. One of the options on that menu says "resize". You will need to resize to a smaller quality (probably) because this site only allows something like 140x160. Once you resize down copy the link and post into the nomad avatar URL box. Good luck. If I remember correctly there were like 5 link boxes on the photobucket site, all different formats, thumbnails, whatever......the only link that worked for me was the 2nd from the top link. All others wouldn't work. Clear as mud?

Hey Ateo, now you taught me something! I had no idea you could resize it right in Photobucket (makes sense tho) - I always just used my photo editing program.

Yeah, I just uploaded a new pic and had to resize down to the lowest resolution. Even though it said it was 120X120 it still wouldn't upload to BajaNomad. Had to go with the lowest size. Good luck.

Hey Ateo, you were right - you have to use the "direct link" option not the img option for BN. I use the img option for posting images on threads so I forgot that for the avatar you have to use the direct one (with http:// in it).

Sorry for the confusion Blanca.

no worries ... it still says my pic is to big so I will give it one more try and then wait another year ... that is about how long it took me to learn hwo to post photos since my computer was interfering with the process.

I would do everything line by line exactly as explained and NADA hahaha

now I can laugh but it was mega frustrating.

Try setting it to 108 in the first space and let it adjust the second one. If you just can't get it to work, you can emal it to me and I will crop it for you.

Katiejay, I think you just taught me how to post pictures on a thread! IMG option! Thanks. I tried to post a pic from Facebook earlier but all it did was leave a link to FB.

YES...you do get gifts when you reach certain levels!

When I became a 'SENIOR NOMAD' Doug sent me a gift membership for 'AARP'. It's really come in handy for discounts on car insurance, motel discounts when traveling and lots more!!

You are aware that when you get to 100 posts, Doug sends you a case of frosty cerveza. From that point, the prizes just keep getting better. David K got a Cabin Cruiser a couple of years back.

It's fun to be a Nomad.

BTW...I've been out on David K's boat with him. It's a really sweet ride!

Nomad Amigos...Here\'s hoping you all have safe Baja travels, amazing sunrises, sunny days, comforting breezes, beautiful sunsets, tasty tacos, cold cervezas and frosty margaritas!!

OK gang I have been working on an avatar and I had to contact
Doug Means several times...had a HECK of a time doing it...first you have to change a picture or whatever image you want to acceptable pixel size, with a program called imageshack.us, then you need to upload the picture to Photobucket, and copy the url of your pic into the avatar section of your edit personal information..I had several sites that claimed that the avatar could be downloaded to this forum but none of them worked except Photobucket...
