I stopped in and visited with "Corona Dave" and Yvonne (I only knew him as Dave) several times over the years. He died a number of years back under suspicious circumstances and as I understand Yvonne went somewhere North. Me and Ged stopped there last Feb. and while their place wasn't much I was surprised to see how little of it was left 10 years after they left. You would never guess that a couple had lived there just a short time back.

dt...I knew Corona Dave quite well...and often referreed the fights between him and Yvonne. Dave had a good right, buy Yvonne fought dirty and whipped his burro many times.

I recall once ...a looong time back..over the vhf came this raspy voice (Dave of course) "Does anybody know what day this is..? and what month?"

I have a good collection of them. Those were....yes...sometimes fun times.

geeezzz..again yes, there IS. Or a couple dudes in the cereso have been framed!

BUT...I repeat my recommendation to go camping anywhere on the peninsula. The chances of being bothered or molested by druggers is VERY remote.

maybe in 1970 but
this year NO

i was with the military commander
they scouted the area last year for months

they even left spotters all around the bay
...nothing

the stories of boats going in and out of the bay loaded with drugs are just myths these days

these stories are as bad as the stories you hear in the states about deaths along the border

just drive in la at nite
memorial weekend 36 were shot and killed
with guns in NY

its safer to be here in mexico
camping...geeezzz

Okay, Bob...I have not been in the bay since late May and cannot say with certainty how much drug activity there has been. I suspect very little as those guys have better routes in the hot months. I assure you that I will have a camera on board this coming season...we shall see what we shall see....and then so will all of you.

But to make a HARD POINT.... my posted photos above are CERTAINLY NOT FROM 1970...far, far from it....they are 2004 and 2005...I am surprised you would infer that. I would rather have our camper original poster be informed and truthfully aware of conditions..than to learn later that he was uninformed and so met with grief. My conscience forces me to state the facts that I personally have witnessed, regardless of how it affects tourism and rentals.

If the peninsula is so drugger-free, why all the patrols? Duh....

But....that little rib about 1970 has just given me an idea.

You have prompted me to write a thread on all the smuggling, armed robbery, assaults, rapes, & homicides committed in and around The Bay and Mulege since...oh....let's just say the last 10 years? Should make quite a list.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

edit to add:

Naw....forget that bad idea. Mulege's my hometown, and we don't air our dirty linen in public. Better to stay an ostrich on this one.
