Almost 40 years of camping all over San Quintin we've never had a problem with crime. If you are going to walk around paranoid just settle for an evening in San Ysidro.

How did that philosophy work out for BajaGringo?

If BajaGringo felt confident enough to approach some hoodlums stripping a vehicle, that speaks volumes of the lack of crime or bad people in BajaGringos area. I know, that's where I've been staying for almost 40 years....in that area known as "La Chorera".

We still leave our toy's outside at night (sandrail, quads, poles,ice-chest's). Maybe you should go down and check it out. Go to la Chorera and ask for Don Alvaro. He'll make you feel like family.

Hum.....I say BajaGringo has more balls than you Mengano. That's right...you the sort of guy that will do NOTHING to help out others. Watching "I love Lucy" on the sofa....while munching on cow chips ....and drinking cheap keystone beer.....is more important to you than running out to help a distress situation. Brownie button award for you... girlyman.

I suppose we have several wanna be Jocks in the BN today.....

You can fish almost immediately after launching then continue fishing by following the coastline for 3-4 miles.
Obviously conditions need to be such that you could fish in safety, but we take our 12 footer out on a regular basis and in safety.
The surrounding waters have been almost like a lake the past 5-6 days which is pretty unusual but there are a lot of "normal" days that you can launch a 12 footer and fish in safety.
If when you arrive conditions are to rough to launch/fish your boat, you could fish with our local panga service (Vonny's Panga's) and have a great time!
I'll second that. You will never get your boat out of the bay at SQ without a knowledgeable local guide because of the narrow meandering channels you have to stay within.

It is always good to get a fair, unbiased opinion of an area. Thank you. By the way, how is the sale of the 30 hectares in San Quintin you've been trying to sell for $6 million doing? Any offers yet?

No mames, wey.

We have a verbal "promise to sell exclusively" to a certain individual but everything takes longer in Mexico. The light is at the end of the tunnel.

San Quintin is great and I would also vote for the Old Mill. If fishing is numero uno for your trip then I would really think about either fishing with Captain Juan or Kelly there...you'll be limited to the shallow bay otherwise and halibut and maybe some rock fish (nothing wrong with that of course but it is a really long bay to get out of to the good stuff and not a chance in a boat that size). But with Bahia de Los Angeles also in your plans I would really think about heading there. You'll also basically be in the "bay" there but oh what a bay it is. If you can beach launch you can head north or south and stick near the coast for all kinds of fun. Check out all the info you can for winds and currents (re: stick close to shore)...the Baja Catch book has maps on line etc. Have fun!

Amigos, I would head south to Bay of LA as the winter weather will be less of an issue. It's also very small and tranquilo and beautiful! Water temps may still be warm?! San Quintin is a mess with farming and fieldworkers mixed with locals choking off traffic on hwy 1. The Bay is beautiful and has some awesome vistas but can be foggy and damp and cold. The amount of crime is also an issue. I would leave the boat and explore around if you have never been there. Hire a panga. Have fun. Tio

This is a great plan... You can stop by San Quintin on the way back to check it out.

sanquintinsince73 is absolutely right - San Quintin is a great place to live / visit and La Chorera truly is the hidden gem of the region. In spite of what happened to us I still consider it to be a safe place to be. What happened to us was a freak thing and while it will change some of our habits it only served to fortify our relationship with the local community and our firm belief that La Chorera is where we want to call home...

Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper -- your deafness a SHOUT.
I may make you feel but I can't make you think.
Your sperm's in the gutter -- your love's in the sink.
So you ride yourselves over the fields and
you make all your animal deals and
your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.

Jethro Tull, outhouse poet, or pied piper? Give a rest Mengano. What's your beef with San Quintin? Are you one of those guy's who hates to see American tourist's in Baja? Do you get the impression that we march down there like arrogant, money-bagged egotists? I have roots in San Quintin, so to speak. My grandfather is in the history books down there.
