Woody, I've always wanted to spend time on San Nicholas. I've been out there on my boat, and fished the south-east end, and went around the other side to check out the effects of the weather. Water was as clear as I've seen. You are a lucky man. Going out there and GETTING PAID FOR IT. Awesome.

Dusty is beautiful! Labs are awesome - best and most affectionate dogs in the world. Toby is envious of her.

Your pic of San Nicholas reminded me of this backwash from the far point in 15'plus surf---its my bud Jason Frazier surfing it:

those are pretty cool. i'll try to post up some more shots of the island in the coming weeks in the non-baja trip report section. i need to get a camera permit first as there is a lot of stuff "they" don't want foto'd.

Don't think there's any south swell in the water right now. Guessing Malibu was picking up the westerly (not northwest groundswell) wind swell that is close to shore following this nasty weather we've had. Just the forecaster in me. Hasnt been any south swell over 1.5 foot in a while. :):)

check out the first shot. that "little" wave in the shorebreak-the closest to the sand is over headhigh. that splash is 30-40 feet high.:O

Two waves trains approaching and meeting from thousands of miles away only to reach each other on a beach is carnage. Love the shot woodie. Backwash and groundswell can make sick 40 foot tall whitewater walls.

actually, it was the same huge swell from the northwest would be split by the island and continue down each side of the island only to bend into a terminal point in the fotos.

That's a nice looking camp. Can you give some information on the tent you have. What brand is it and how does it stand up to a strong wind ??

This will be my next tent. I have been around a lot of tents, this is a great tent. My buddy has one and it is bomb proof, more money then most here would spend. Paying good money for quality equipment usually pays off in the long run. I have never purchases anything from Cabela's but I'm planing too. They also have canvas style room tents.
