Any guy who had to use methadone for 8 years to get off heroin, only to make a successful TV show and make millions is OK in my book. He really
turned his life around. Hope he eats at Mama's and Christy's Taco's in San Juanico.

Bourdain Strives to Be Honest and Real
He puts everything about himself out there for examination.
He went back to his old kitchen in Les Halles, New York, to test himself to see if he could survive the brutal routine of a fast paced kitchen after
years of being celebrated and acclaimed.
He did an entire show as an appreciation of the determination and hard work of the Mexican immigrant who replaced him as executive chef (the
restaurant sponsored his citizenship) and Bourdain traveled with him to visit his family in central Mexico to find and document his roots.
Also, Bourdain did a very telling and informative piece about the Texas/Mexico border, where a legal immigrant works in a sushi restaurant near the
border and sends all his money home to his family, which built a house and market for them, but he can't go see them because he is still waiting for
his citizenship.
Bourdain may come off as an arrogant, posturing celebrity on first glance, but he has substance and works hard to make his shows culturally
informative, instead of an exercise in pictorial food porn

Guess you don't meet many Canadians in 'The Baja'? Think of it this way, Baja has become so well known, it doesn't need to be attached to California
anymore... Or that The Baja is short for The Baja Peninsula...
British people use terms like The Sudan, The Sahara, The Congo, etc. so why not 'The Baja'?
Jimmy Smith (like you) hated the term 'The Baja'.. and in his book you will see a map made by Dave Deal addressing the issue:

Thanks amigo... I love all of Dave Deal's cartoons... specially the off road ones! Dave is no longer with us, but his art web site is still online. He
did most of the characters in Pixar's movie CARS, as well!

Dave Deal was certainly an American original. You can't imitate such raw talent. Incredible.
