The one that has a A Frame for a Office is on the south end of the Malecon and a block east It' close to Velmar Hospital. It's pretty run down and real close to a Honkey Tonk that dont get to really Jamming untill after Midnight.

I stopped by there a few months ago. Its a beautiful place in a rural orchard-like pasture, lots of space to safely walk and roam about.

A nice restaurant with wifi is open for breakfast through dinner.

There's plenty of rv parking and there are some nicely appointed rooms for rent with lots of privacy, too.

Much of the staff is family of Irene and speak English fluently. They generously arranged for a mechanic to help me with my pickup.

The hard part is finding the place. Its not well marked out on the highway. I just happened to stumble on it, and actually stopped at a ranch house and asked for a room and something to eat; they looked at me like I was a little nuts and sent me on down the dirt road another half mile to Irene's!

You're a ways off the beach, however,.......maybe twenty miles, so if you want beach camping, that's something else.

That is called EL PALOMAR... very popular.

It is a fairly nice overnight stop, if you're in a van or pickup camper. The RV sites are extremely short and tight. Parked outside and walked in before taking the plunge down the double-diamond access road. Decided that I would have to jack-knife the trailer to get it into the sites, then unhook and re-hook in the opposite direction to pull it out. And that is with a 26 ft trailer.

Electricity work water pressure low, lots of farm animals in a corral. We were up wind so no problem. I needed 4wd to pull the airstream up the driveway while exiting. We liked it.

Yeah...that's a radical entry. In the heat of summer, the pool sure feels good. It was about 50 years ago when I first jumped in.

Jack Smith used to stay in the motel across the street when he was coming down to La Bocana to have his house built by God and Mr. Gomez. That makes the place a shrine as far as I'm concerned. :)

Anybody know what kind of shape La Bocana de Santo Tomas is in? I know the camping area at the beach and the road leading to it were damaged a couple of years ago by the heavy rains that collapsed several bridges along the highway.

Great place but I haven't been there since the storms.
