Mood: Checking-off my bucket list.

[*] posted on 1-12-2013 at 10:47 AM

Ten degrees here this morning, and just a degree colder at 5500 ft. We have had almost NO melting of the Christmas 3 1/2 feet of snow. By Monday our high is supposed to get above freezing.

I put a heater in the camper to make it habitable for inventory and packing. That melts the inch or two of fresh snow we get now and then.

I'll have to do something before it freezes the door shut til spring!!

3 inches of snow yesterday, 7 degrees last night at Topaz Lake, haven't heard from anyone though in San Felipe about frozen dog water bowls yet.

Maybe that's why it's a ghost town.

I like your current choice for avatar, Ken. It's really one of your best baja images. I liked it from the first time you showed it here.

It is 24 here in Olympia right now with a forecast high of 37. Wish I was in Baja right now. The 50s and 60s sound downright balmy!

I wonder if I can get that really thick clear or almost clear plastic down here? By boxing in the porch, it can really make a difference (sun porch) after the sun has been up awhile. It would be nice to shed this foul weather coat for awhile and enjoy the sun.

You may get a chance, yet, to see snow on Las Tres Virgenes. Monday morn is supposed to see 1C with a thirty percent chance of precep.

It's not that cold yet(edit: 14F).....scheduled to see -5F in the next 48 hours.......but the snow totals for the past 48 hours are around 30" in my yard and on my driveway....which means my back, shoulders and thighs are sore from the workout. They're calling this the "upside down storm", more snow below 8000' than above it.....I could use some global warming about now......or just a good moto ride through Baja:!:

Infant death is evident in the graveyards here as well. The body is interred and marked with a crude, whitewashed wooden cross painted with a name and dates, and around the grave is placed the slatted sides of a crib, as a fence. I assume that is to keep the digging scavengers away from the soft dirt.
In time it all disintegrates from weather and deferred attention as life
goes on.

Good morning. Central California Coast is 30F with a slight east wind. Time for a wool sweater and windbreaker.

I'm thankful to be so far south of the really cold weather Up North!

From a Nomad near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

-27C which is -16.6F.

Now that's getting chilly!

Bodie's low forecast today is -13 F.

The other two, always in the running, are West Yellowstone, Wy. and Gunnison, Co.

New low for the season over here at 45 F.

26 F here on Vancouver Island but difference is it is 72 F in the house with a warm wood fire burning. In Baja we chill at night and have to wait for the sun to warm us up. Although, here it never really warms up outside and we sure get tired of coats, mitts, scarves, and boots and cabin fever can really take its toll on the liquor cabinet.
