The drags were shot. My thinking was, we are just going calico bass fishing, one more trip will be ok. I had my thumb on the spool to try to keep him
out of the kelp.
You can't go wrong with an Avet reel. I own an SX and I think its undersized for fish over 30#. For fish over 30 I would go with the two speed LX.
Spool it with 65# Jerry Brown spectra with a 100' top shot of mono. I attach all my top shots to spectra with a 14 turn Albright knot. Pass the tag
end through the finishing loop twice instead of the called for once. Never had a failure.
