I contacted Shaw by email and got a call back from them. I asked about continuing service in Mexico. The answer was that Shaw will NOT be providing satellite coverage in Mexico but at this time, no date has been set for its discontinuance......Please dont try to argue with me, call them direct......I wont be getting a Shaw system. Their number is 888 554 7827

OK, so did they tell you how they will "discontinue" satellite coverage in Mexico? Big difference between "providing satellite coverage in Mexico," a technical issue, and "authorizing accounts to receive programming in Mexico," a policy issue.

I did read your post. I'm not trying to talk you into trying to get a Shaw Direct account, or to argue about whether Shaw will give you one if you tell them up front you're in Mexico (they won't). If I called that phone number and asked the same question as you did, I would expect to get the same answer you got.

The original question that started this thread had to do with Shaw LNBs and signal coverage (footprint) in Mexico. Again, I'm only trying to address the technical issues. If you have some concrete information as to Shaw shutting down satellite signal coverage into Mexico and the US on their two existing satellites, and how they will do that, I would be very interested in reading about this.

Present some facts instead of what some low-level CSR at Shaw told you when you asked about providing service in Mexico.

Call them and find out for yourself...I have no dog in this fight. I dont have a shaw system and certainly wouldnt buy one when the company says they are going to phase it out. Alan would apparently have us believe that they are just kidding...FYI: Alan, I cant imagine how you would know who I talked to, but it certainly wasnt a flunkie. I suggest that anyone that anyone interested in Shaw do their own homework....and make up their own mind...

Simply more misinformation. Phase what out? You don't know what you're talking about.

I've been in the satellite TV and Internet business for 30 years. Heard a lot of wild-ass rumors in that time and this is just another one.

And you are dumb....I never said I was an expert, and said clearly that people should call Shaw....I was doing diligence about getting a sat system...You clearly are grinding your own axe here, most likely not wanting people to contact the actual provider, since it would be detrimental to your business. Call them and report what they say, if you dont know how to use a phone, get help...You may want to get someone to help you read my posts.....I could care less....

And you are just peeing in the pool....

97% of our business is selling HughesNet Gen4, Dish Network and commercial V-Sat in the US. Shaw Direct business for me is almost non existent, either in the US or Baja. Nowhere here did I offer to sell anyone anything. Again, you are simply spreading more misinformation and trying to discredit others who know more about this issue than you do.

Certainly not detrimental to my business if readers here call Shaw Direct. And, if they ask the same question you did, they will get the same stupid answer.

Chuckie you should take a shot of tequila and relax, I have read Alan's posts for years and he has never been wrong and never has had an axe to grind. You are off track when you think he is selling, he is just trying to give you some facts and info so you can clearly see what is happening. I thought I was a real expert and for some time I have known he is way above me, his technical knowledge is unreal. I am just a poor boy who installed satellite systems, ran some coax and pointed some antennas. The scant data base I have is nothing compared to Alan, and no I have never met him and am not trying to sell anything! Most people know me as the Satellite Guy from Los Barriles, take a breath and don't dig you hole any deeper! Try real hard to read what he is telling you! Remember, key word is relax!

OK, I just got off the phone with my Shaw Direct distributor/partner. Here is what they said

Within the last two weeks, Shaw sent them a letter explaining that they have tightened their requirements for non-Canada / Home Away From Home (HAFH) accounts, and the distributor is no longer able to assist in setting up new accounts for non Canadian-based customers. They may still be able to help with setting up new accounts for folks who have a bona fide Canadian address, depending on where the address is located. The HAFH option will now cost an additional $75 per month.

This does not mean Shaw is realigning their satellites or discontinuing signal coverage. I need to emphasize this. It's a policy change affecting new accounts and existing accounts, and NOT a technical change affecting the current signal availability. Shaw will not be realigning satellites, and has no way to detect where a receiver is located unless someone stupidly tries to connect it to a phone line with a non Canadian number capable of connecting to the Shaw system (For example, a Vonage phone with a US-based telephone number).

But Shaw may terminate existing accounts if they suspect the receivers are in the US or Mexico. All non Canadian-based Shaw customers are advised that they should keep their account billing current with no lapses, and not say or do anything that would cause Shaw to disconnect them. They should not call Shaw Direct, ask questions about service in Mexico, connect a telephone line, try to add additional receivers, or "share" accounts with others. Anything suspicious can get an account shut down, and the receivers black-flagged permanently.

Again chuckie, up until my last post, I was addressing the technical question of Shaw changing/discontinuing signal coverage in Mexico, which is the question that started this thread. Nothing I wrote in my last post is inconsistent with anything I wrote in my previous posts.

If you beg to differ, then you will see only what you want to see and read only what you want to read.

Since you are not a Shaw Direct account holder, and do not want to become one, none of this applies to you.
