With you on that, a little dusty, a few too many plastic
bags blowing in the wind, yes. Certain weekends too
crowded with Gringos/ Mex Nationals from Mexicali, yes.
Beautiful beaches like the Cape, no. Giving Baja a bad
name, heck NO

Unless you absolutely have to go during Semana Santa, I would definitely avoid San Felipe; it is an absolute zoo. Thousands of people crammed on the Malecon, police everywhere, dust, dust and more dust, traffic, etc. etc. We went one time many years ago and vowed to NEVER go back during that time. If you have kids in school and/or you have the week off from work then you don't have a lot of choice, but if you can avoid it definitely do so. Memorial Day is a much better option; will be busy but nothing like Semana Santa.

All I know is that it is a very dusty and noisy place that is designed to attract dirt bikers and three wheelers who drive all over the place kicking up dust and making tons of noise.

If that is your cup of tea, by all means, go to San Felipe.

Having traveled down and up the peninsula, many times to Cabo and back, I just feel that there are so many other preferable places to visit than San Felipe. But, that's just my opinion.

San Felipe is a far smaller town than Ensenada, and will be easier to drive through if Gonzaga Bay is your destination... plus, there isn't a dozen other towns like there is on Hwy. 1 to pass through.

I haven't been there in many years but I used to stay at a hotel a ways south of town that was always nice and quiet and away from the crazy tourists. I don't remember the name but it was painted yellowish orange and the walls facing the beach were built at angles towards the water if that makes any sense. Sorry, had a few beers.

So true David.

Cabo Del Sol is down there somewhere....among the overcrowded beaches....golf courses and the smog from all those cars. I wouldn't heed to advice from someone that lives in an gated community 900 miles away.

San Felipe is not dusty nor a RV off road hell. We just love our little town that is full of non criticizing folks.

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

I like the El Cortez. They have a wall around the property with a gate guard (still gaps, but better than most). They also have a great restaurant, and they take credit cards. I think rooms start at around $60.00 per night,

San Felipe is not dusty nor a RV off road hell. We just love our little town that is full of non criticizing folks.

Then, the last time I was down there, I must have been dreaming. There were three and four wheelers driving all over the place making noise and raising dust. Now, I can wake up.

SF is what you want it to be , go on a big weekend with warm weather and yes it is crouded and with lots of off roaders.and it should be the town needs the money coming in. Go mid week or off season the town is peaceful and quiet.

I love going to San Felipe. Specially from the Ensenada highway. The scenery from that road is incredible. But im not a big crowds kind of guy. The times ive been there have been in low tourism time i guess. Last year we went on memorial day, wasnt that crowded. Or maybe i didnt notice it. We were only a few minutes in the malecon area in the morning, and then we were off all the way down to Bahia Gonzaga. The newly built highway is awesome and the scenery on that road is breathtaking.

Mid way driving on 3 to SF from Ensenada...on your left...you will see a little stand that has baskets for sale. The old guy there actually makes them on the the spot. Very cool to watch his artwork in progress. We always take a LONG day to drive through each town on the route...so much to see and there's not a single McDonalds, closed in communities or noisy gofers like in Cabo Del So .....on this route to dust free San Felipe :-)

Hey mcfz thanx for the info. Ill keep an eye for the basket guy. Sometimes i get so concentraded in the natural scenery that we dont see people or the artwork. Maybe we take them for granted, instead of watching them master their art.
