In the article, they were referred to as "extranjeros"...foreigners.
I have to argue your point that "Gringo", when used by a Mexican, is a generalization for OTMs. North Americans are gringos. Others are referred to
by their nationality.

I use the term with the locals all the time to refer to North Americans...especially those that frequent Mexico infrequently.
and on edit: an undesirable gringo is refered to as a P****e gringo and there is a few of those around as well.

I would not be too quick to judge. (Not to excuse those two goofballs, by the way.)
I wasn't there for this weather event but I have worked at disaster relief in the U.S. particularly in Florida when four hurricanes when through in a
matter of weeks as well as post Rita.
Walmart, whom I seldom defend due to their general personnel policies, after hurricane Rita, instructed their store managers to open the doors and let
people have the contents. Their reasoning was that the contents of a store on any given day are small potatoes and that much of it was spoiled anyway.
It would be all thrown in a dumpster in order to rebuild the structural damage.
Also, that they felt that it was the right thing to do. Those 'looters', as we call them, are more often than not looking for food and water. The news
photographers will always go for the shot of the person with consumer goods. The 'looters' came back as grateful customers.

Disenfranchised, or those on the toilet cleaning end of the economic scale, will grab an opportunity to share in the wealth they see daily, although
can't afford to buy.

Ditto, Dennis. These clowns are obviously just out to 'boost' some chit, period. They could afford what they were taking, if they were indeed
'working gringos' in Cabo; they were Thrill Killers, nothing more. Common dumb-bells.
After a hurricane water becomes more precious than anything else as all lines are cut, stores are usually sold out before the conflagration and the
body can live for days without food (or what you can scrounge)... but water, oro del desierte. If I had to loot to get it, so be it. You are right,
they looted just BECAUSE THEY COULD.

encourage the looting to be able to collect
insurance. If they just open the doors then the

When you get your FM3 or Perm Res card, you sign agreement that if convicted of a crime these can be revoked and you will be deported. Well, stealing
TV's and Kayaks is a crime. I assume Mex officials will take pride in removing them since they were making nice money,,,,,bozos. Looks like she'll
go back to stripping ........too soon??, sorry

I would not have entered the store because I don't want to get prosecuted. Those that were caught should have to pay 50 times the cost of the
merchandise to the merchant and no government prosecution. Fair to the merchant, hurts the thief and keeps the taxpayers from feeding thieves and
lawyers. Then if the thief doesn't pay, he goes to jail but has to repay the jail cost when he gets out.

Really??? The Walmart people are some of the richest people in the world. I think ripping off corporations like Walmart at their vulnerable time is
fine. They won't even notice it. These people (looters) have never had the opportunity to have nicer things.
Stealing from mom and pops stores is not cool.

it's human nature. the poor steal when opportunity arises. the rich steal when opportunity arises. everyone steals when the opportunity arises (the
rich use politicians to legitimize their theft via law). i empathize with the poor, not with the rich.

Stealing is just that, it's wrong and it's a crime. It doesn't matter who is doing the stealing or who is being stolen from. The idea that it is OK to
steal from someone that has more than you is one of the things that is wrong with our country, it's wrong in Mexico too.
