Thank you, Elona. Fun to see the interiors, too.

Mulege Mission Church - Misión Santa Rosalía de Mulegé. The mission was founded in 1705 by the Jesuit missionary Juan Manuel de Basaldúa.

Some Baja-lovers and amigos from Italy decide to have their wedding at the mission.

Certain church ceremonies make me nervous...

Very cool Roger... CALIFORNIA'S 4th Spanish mission, 1705... the construction of the stone church was just finished a year before the Jesuits were ordered expelled!

Harald, nice one of the chapel at Comondú!

Every time I see photos of beautiful structures like these I am saddened at all the incredible resources (time, money, talent) that are wasted on religion. I can't stop thinking about how much better the world would be if these massive resources had been devoted to real things that actually benefit people, like health, education, housing...instead of imaginary sky fairy worship. I am bracing for the responses, bring it on :).

I'd like to humbly ask that if folks would enjoy a discussion about religion, that it move over to the off topic forum, so this could remain a photo thread. Thanks for sharing these great pictures. Keep em coming.

And another of the Virgin of the Rocks. With recent enclosure.

My first photo was in 1975, soon after the artist completed his painting.

don't ask - don't tell?

religion, churches were powerful imperialists - why should we not talk about the pros and cons?

Without the (church commissioned) composer Palestrina we would not have modern music.
