We will be in Catavina area a few days before start of race, staying at the famous Santa Ines Rancho. Catch up with Ralph who had his birthday
yesterday, October 15th. Plan to pit at the Baja Pits Cocos Corner night before race. Bikes to come through around 9 am.
If anyone interested in meeting up during those days, give me a U2U. Will be riding my XR400.

We went thru Calamajue wash a week ago. water was not deep but there was a place or two to be careful of because of the mud. Basically we had no
trouble getting thru. Coco had a locked gate put up not far from his old place toward Calamajue. Ironically there is a short road around it so I'm not
sure what it's suppose to prove or imply.

Hi Tom... Coco had nothing to do with it and does not have a key for it like when he was at his old corner. The gate was installed to prevent the
taking of rocks, green rocks from the canyon by landscape material thieves. This per posts on a m/c Facebook page.

PDF maps are neat, digital files are very useful. I thought I should share the Baja1k 2021 files here with fellow nomads.
I'll probably be watching the race and fishing around here if any nomads are going to be in the area.

For the uber nav geeks here's a couple transparent maps to overlay the race course over the map on your Garmin units. (on compatible devices like
Montana series)
This is the way I like to manage tracks, instead of having a bunch of tracks/waypoints I make maps to turn on and off easily.
One file with tracks and waypoints, one with just tracks and no waypoints.

Lost Roadie,
I think you will find the GPX version pretty poor compared to the USR version. This is why most of the racers use USR.
The GPX version is highly filtered to get it to a reasonable size. This means missing sharp curves and dropoffs.
The soultion is to view the USR files on a compatible device without the filtering.

Race Course on newer Satellite image (Hwy. 5 completed)
Thanks to 'geoffff' for some pointers, I figured out how to put the Baja 1000 course and notes (little squares) onto the ArcGIS satellite map, which
has the completed Hwy. 5. The Score link map used Google Earth and they do not have imagery showing anything new in the Coco's Corner area.
Check it out and zoom way in...

FYI - Contingency will NOT be open to the public due to Covid
I'm personally bummed about this but I guess it gives our crew more time to get S to find a good campsite along the water.
I like to explore remote dirt tracks and beaches.

Apparently, Calamajué Canyon will never be used for racing again, for environmental reasons, I guess?

The Govt declared that Calamajué Canyon racing was forbidden several years ago and the next race went thru the canyon. Could be the original
forbidden use is now being honored?
Of course non racing use is good.

Here's the Baja 1000 Course Map embedded in Google Maps (and cleaned up a bit).
