Huh? Do Burros have ego - Why should Don-Kay (AKA The Burro) suffer for Mike's book deal - sorry - I hate animal abuse -

What I am doing is with the blessing of Mike... I wouldn't take the time to post the maps and images if it wasn't of interest and requested by Mike and countless viewers. I think it would help Nomads to meet up with him and bring Don-Kay supplies (since a lot of folks have pitty on the burro... doing burro things) and maybe Mike too.:light:

It would be nice if any information of the day's events could be included once in a while. No matter how insignificant. Just to get a better feel for the journey. The weather , what they ate, who they met, how long are the breaks. Blister today. Low on coffee tomorrow.

Otherwise this thread will be too dry.

Not only will more people follow this thread but it will increase sale rather than the other way around.

Regarding the criticism - it comes with the territory. Any public endeavor will have it's critics. It's just a choice on what a reader wants to focus on. I wouldn't get upset about it because that just blows it out of proportion.

... I had no idea a book was in the works until BajaGringo reported it when he returned from Puerto Catarina. I didn't like the idea from that point, but I decided to continue posting the location of Mike as a matter of concern for them and that the vast majority who view this form enjoy seeing their progress.

When Mike & I were corresponding about his upcoming trip, I offered to help coordinate help in the case he needed it because Juan has many amigos & family up and down the peninsula...he never mentioned a book...

I think a book is a wonderful idea and doesnt diminish my interest in his trek at all.... why on earth wouldnt you like the idea David? I for one am grateful for the posts you do to keep track of where Mike is so perhaps some nomads may want to join him for a bit which I hope to do too when he gets closer.

What I dont get is why some people attack each other personally on a thread about one man's journey...it's interesting to read people's opinions and outlooks...I may not agree but try not to attack the poster who expresses them. I very much look forward to the book.

hunker down Mike et al...looks like we're gonna have a nasty blow on sunday.

I believe this adventure will also add sales to Graham's books, as I for one now MUST order them! It's all great and of interest.

I really dont think Mike is "FORCING" anyone to buy his book by keeping some of the details out of the press. Nor does he have to answer to our whims here on Nomad....it wasnt HIS idea for us all to be tracking him here.

I think it was a smart idea...I love intrigue and it's fun imagining the whole scenario...I dont mind in the least that he wants to tell the story in full in his own words.

You don't know an iota of what happens on a daily basis - the military roust, the planning, why Solo is on the trip and what she does, the awesome landscape, the dinosaur bones - I won't say another word. The trip is only 1/4th completed - anything can happen. And it wasn't Mike's idea for a book anyway.

Yah, I agree with you Shari... but it is what Ron posted that Mike told him the reason for secrecy on how he was able to get past the cliffs. I think the obvious is not hard to figure out as there are no roads there. Anyway, let's try and enjoy Mike's adventure and the rest of what is on Baja Nomad.

I think this is getting way off track.

Mike is not hiking down the trail thinking of money he can make off a book or which strategy will sell more books by telling / withholding details. The idea of writing a book was suggested to Mike but even he admitted to me that the idea of it still overwhelms him as he is not a writer.

Mike is focused on getting through each day, keeping his team fed, watered, safe and intact and hopefully closer to his destination than when the day began. Nothing more.

Mike's rescue from below the Catarina mesa was really quite an amazing story with a lot of details and I probably don't know half of them. I just think he wants to be the one to tell that part of his own story, not some third party. I don't blame him.

This really is a tough crowd sometimes...

Maybe he and the others loaded the burro in the boat and strapped it down and they don't want PETA to find out.

Hay, I like a good conspiracy theory as well as anyone. The opinions expressed by so many on a guy walking down Baja with a burro and dog make for good reading.

If you can transport a full sized pick on 2 pangas and a couple timbers, you can probably hog tie and load a burro for a short ride.

No worries

Yea---you are correct. Hopefully he has learned to take better care of the donkey-----

so time to sit back and just watch the show---including all of the credit seekers, those involved in emergency help simply for humanitarian reasons, the informercials that will evolve, and the promotion of his adventure book, if and when he decides to write it---which some will buy and some will not. And it sounds like maybe he will write a book, and maybe not All is an interesting adventure.

Again, I wish Mike well and Don Kay better.

If anyone can put a burro in a boat it's a mexican. They are the best at using what they have.

David keep up the good work i imagine there are a lot of us that follow, and appreciate, what you write and don't always chime in.

Just to be fair to Mike, in all the months I’ve been discussing the trip with him, he never once mentioned writing a book, except to dismiss the idea claiming he couldn’t write and couldn’t imagine putting in all the months and months of work to tell the tale. That was certainly not his motivation.

Moreover, Mike has months and months of trials and tribulations and unbelievable hard work in front of him. There is nothing certain, predictable or guaranteed in what he has undertaken. Every day will be an adventure and like Bajagringo said he’ll be fully preoccupied with the everyday business of packing, unpacking, camping, breaking camp, taking care of his buddies and balancing the needs of keeping the weight down and making sure he’s carrying everything necessary to get by.

Hope he continues to find the same kindness, hospitality and helpfulness that I found on my Baja burro trip.
