help yourself (be sure to return the bottles!). Our dogs were welcomed with no extra fee (though we left a few bucks for the housekeeper who has to
deal with all that dog hair!). The poochies enjoyed chasing the resident cats around. Owners Jim and Nancy Harer have been there 11 years. Nice
folks. Don't let them steer you away from the Old Mill Restaurant, which in spite of what they might tell you, is quite good. Plus you don't have to
drive anywhere!
Cash only (no surprises there). To find them, take the road toward Old Mill then follow the signs to Don Eddy's (that might be Eddie's). Just before
the Old Mill Restaurant there is the last sign pointing you to the right to Don Eddy's. Take that right and you'll see Old Mill Hotel on your left.
Email: oldmill@telnor.net or make resv toll free at 800 479 7962 or call 01 61 616 56030. Surprisingly (at least to us) they were full up last night
on a Wednesday with nothing special going on in the area, so do make a resv!
I forget to mention the rooms are spotless!

I Love the OLD MILL. One evening last summer after too many Margaritas I left my purse with documents and lots of money hanging on the back of my
chair. The next day I was past Mama's when i realized that i had left it! I drove back as fast as I could not wanting to lose my passport and FM3,
and sure enough when i walked into the restaurant my purse was hanging on the light fixture. The waiter who has served me the night before was all
smiles,saying that he saved it for me. I gave him a BIG tip when I found that nothing was missing, not a cent. All my possesions were safe.
I am pretty sure that would not have happened at CL as sad to say my favorite crab place has gone way down hill.

Not quite the facts... Gypsy's RV Park was started after Dave & Juanita sold the Cielito Lindo Motel & Restaurant business in 2001... The
indoor camping room was designed for us tent campers who needed some protection from the winds and rain that frequents San Quintin... It was never a
bathroom... The bathroom building is the same as always, since the RV park was built.
I used the Indoor Camping room a few times because it was always raining when we arrived! (2002-2004)
It was a great idea... we put our cots or air mattress on the sand floor and had a dry, wind free night! |
Well, that's what I get for believing a couple of drunk gringo's at the Wet Buzzard (when it was still "wet").  Since my camping consists of leveling my RV, putting out the slides, and firing up the satellite dish, I didn't have
the first-hand experience of you intrepid rock-sleepers.  Although I did look in
the door once.

It's been a couple of years since I've been out to the Old Mill, have they improved the road? It was a long, narrow lake last time I was there.

I made the mistake of turning onto the OM road after heavy rain. The road was underwater for miles. Went off into a field to turn around in an
30' RV towing a car. A milagro got me through. The road, in the past, is a major washboard. Go slow.

I was out there right after Christmas and the road was fine. A bit rocky at the beginning, silty later on. Compared to the one out to the oyster
farms or any number of others, it was a pleasure cruise of a few minutes. Going fast always seems to help (or at least make it end sooner).

I was in San Quintin the weekend of August 30th 2008 and the old mill was closed. Nobody was there and there were for rent signs in the window.

Did you hear if there are any prospects to take over the restaurant/bar? Used to like going over there but not much lately since they closed. Once we
are down there full time I might look into it. Ran a similar operation in Argentina years ago.
Anybody in the area interested in participating???

Last time I was on this thread, I was thinking of trying Don Eddie's. I may yet, but Jardines was so nice last time that it would be hard not to go
back, especially now that they've opened a classy new restaurant next to the hotel (that used to be the restaurant). Only drawback, for some, is it's
not on the water. For others, it's a pleasant break from the wind and sand and the garden itself is very tranquil and pretty.
All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

We just got back and stayed at the old mill overnight.The owners were very friendly.the resturant at don eddies was without a doubt one of the worst
we have eaten in in baja.All in all a nice experience but wouldnt want to spend more than a day or two there

We ate at Done Eddies a few weeks back. Was not an experience that would inspire us to return. Food and service were bad.

Did we meet you there? We were there Wed - Friday...
I think the restaurant at the Old Mill could be a success with a limited but varied menu, and half the real estate. The place is huge. No idea about
the restaurant rent BUT, the day we left the marines were pretty much moving in. But that will go into our trip report. Had breakfast at Don Eddie's
on Friday. It was the usual, we don't have this, we don't have that....but there were 4 of us and all of the food was very good. A little pricy but
that is because the portions are HUGE. The boys had the "black forest ham steak" and eggs (and the ham steak alone was enough for 4 people), I had
the machaca with veggies, Nancy had the cheese omelet. All excellent though the atmosphere is somewhat depressing.
We had dinner Thursday at Jardines -- again an excellent meal and too large of portions. Everyone had fish of some sort - all prepared differently,
all excellent.
Could not tell if the RV park was open or not...the little store was open but had almost nothing in inventory. Some t-shirts, about 8 beers and few
bottles of water. We bought all the beer (except the Bud Light - left that there for one of you)!

Thanks for the info I assumed the entire place was closed hotel and all!!! I took 8 guys down from Colonet on dirt bikes for lunch and ended up eating
at Don Eddies. I was really let down and a little embarrassed by the quality of food that Don Eddies served. I cant wait to try Jardines. But I think
I will really miss sitting on the deck of the Old Mill having lunch and enjoying looking out over the bay. Hopefully someone will get the restaurant
going again soon.

well, you can ALWAYS bring your own food and enjoy the deck! The road this time of year is fine; yes, rocky just off the highway and then it just
goes to washboard. When it's wet, it's a real crap shoot....and we've been through it many times is all kinds of weather - we prefer dry to wet!

As far as renting the returant at the old mill.Might be a real good idea to do some research on whats going on there.Seems to be a very rich guy
interested in buying everything there and turning it into San Diego South.He has the l;ocal police in his pocket and wants to buy the old mill which
isnt for sale.The owner gets hassled and stopped by the police everytime he leaves the property.We were told that within a few years you wouldnt
recognize the place because of all of the new developement plans

That would be bad because the place still has the "old" baja charm.
But might be good for me because my property value at Pedregal would go up. If I cared about that sort of thing.
But there are many grand schemes for that area. And I'm sure that in about 100 years some might actually happen.
I met the owner a while back and he was a nice guy. Didn't strike me as the type to be intimidated. Young and serious go getter type.
