MM,
The word you are looking for is "alkaline" rather than "basicity" (which is not a real word).

Also, beer rates as an alkaline substance...Google says so....

Next set of theories?

I don't think so. Beer is hyper-acidic. Using 7 as PH balanced with anything above being alkaline and anything below being acidic....beer is 2.5. Way down there.
Run it through Google again.

Dennis,
I was wrong....you are correct that beer is in the acidic range of a PH scale....some beers are rated at a ph of 4.0...

http://www.simplegreen.com/pdfs/ph_scale.pdf

MM,
I was wrong ...."basicity" is a word.....

I will crawl back into my cave in humility

Thanks, Ged......I suppose some are higher than others. I have a PH meter so I'll take the burden of proof as mine and give it a test....today.

Just did a pH lab with my Chemistry students. Didn't test any beer, but soda was slightly acidic! They could bring samples in to test, so had quite a variety. I wouldn't let them test any, "body fluids", though...you'd be surprised at what they'd like to know the pH of!! Saludos, H.

At the "return the loan" end a normal PH will be 6.8
That would support a healthy system. It all actually means something.

Have enjoyed many brands of beer. Tecate? Leaves sort-of-a sour taste in my mouth and unsettles my stomach. Weird? I'd call it just a downright nasty brew. And I have what's called a "caste iron" stomach.

thanks for your time Dennis...at both ends
cypress...this happens when i mix tecate products with Pacifico products...i must say, i prefer the taste of Tecate over all...but love negra modelo too...
so if the PH is so low....does this mean it is good to use lime?? balances things out?

I like Tecate with Clamato and Lime on a hot deserted beach. It includes multiple food groups and makes for well balanced diet. If you serve me some Pacifico I will drink that too. Dos Equis dark is good too. I can drink a Corona if it's available. I use lime with just about everything, we have a mexican lime tree in the back yard and we use the stuff liberally on food and drink. When we are home we lean toward local handcrafted beers when in Mexico we roll with the flow and drink what's cold and at hand.

To each his own. :dudette:

No. Not really. The volume differential makes a quarter lime, squeezed into a bottle or glass of beer, negligible.
There are other ways to elevate the alkaline content in the system.....most simple and accesible would be a spoon of baking soda mixed with water.
If one wants to attain the good PH balance in the system, it's nesessary to have the testing tools at hand. It's a method that doesn't stand up with guess-work.

Yes, don't drink Corona! However, Sol is in a clear bottle and doesn't stink like Corona?

Oh well... Pacifico is muy bueno... XX, too! In fact, it tastes great on tap... Pacifico wasn't available, but XX was for our newly aquired kegerator!:bounce::cool::light:

David is on track,,,Corona is pee water, the Coors of Mexico. Pacifico and XX for sure, and if you can find it XX amber.

The subject is a good to ponder, but hey, they put limes on everything, think about it, Tacos, fish, watermelon, Carne Asada... And the list goes on.
