On my last trip down before Xmas I saw the bicycle family heading south about 10 miles past El Rosario. This is where the road is twisting through the
mountains. It was raining and windy as we went by and then I saw the last bike had 3 people on it .....and in back was a kid about 10 years old. Glad
to hear they made it further down.

The law is five and I've seen it enforced many times. I frequently drive 74 from Temecula to Palm Desert and it's usually thick with cops. On several
occasions (twice in just the last three months), I've witnessed them stopping holdup drivers.

When I take the Ortega Highway I speed right along with the rest of them around those DANGEROUS CURVES. There are pullouts but I would rather speed
than use them. I think it is a triple fine area. If there are any cyclists on that stretch of the road they will be bumped over the edge into a 500
foot ravine! Accidentally of course!

I was riding in the passenger seat with a friend driving in Venezuela years ago when we came up to a small group on bikes taking up the road with the
trailing car proving interference. My friend kept his patience for about 3 or 4 minutes until traffic allowed and then simply pulled around the group,
in front of the bikes and then slowed down to a crawl. When the bikes tried to pass he sped up and then once the bikes were behind he would slow down
again. This game went on for about 10 minutes until a traffic cop pulled us all over. When the stories were told the cop ordered the bikes to remain
on the side of the road or he would confiscate the bikes and they would pay a fine to recover them.
We were given a tongue lashing and laughed about it for the rest of the day.
Anyone who does this on bikes and not involved in an sanctioned / organized events are jerks IMHO...

It's all arrogant nonsense. What's next? Do they take their one year old kid out on the road and teach him to ride a tricycle while the marooon
father rides interference with the Chevy?
Some of these gawwdam people think they are above the cooperation that is required to make society work smoothly.

Narco Target Practice
I think the drug lords should be using them for the right reason, roadside target practice from a speeding car. Seems like I always hear about people
being gunned down by 3-4 dudes who stop their black SUV's and then have to walk over and waste someone.
Stop it! What ever happened to the skill of drive-by shootings in Baja? The US has them all the time. They date back to at least the time of the
Old West on horses and wagons and then upgraded to cars and trucks in the Roaring 20's.

I've been watching this thread because bicyclists on narrow, high speed, two lane roads with no shoulders is sooooooo outrageous.
THEY CHOOSE TO CREATE A ROAD HAZARD
The first time I saw this in baja I was amazed at how anybody can be so stupid. But each year there are more of them. And now they have blocker cars.
That just makes matters worse.
Maybe some drunk local dudes in old Hondas with stove pipe exhausts and purple tinted windows will get rid of some beer bottles at the appropriate
time. Perhaps for a tip.

We can freak out when we run into some idiot riding a bike while we are coming around a curve (that fear has taken years off my life, been there, done
that!)
I don't want anyone to be hurt! Not my family or the people on the bike, it just seems to me that if you can't do the speed limit, you shouldn't be
on the road  especially Mex 1, we all know just how bad it can be, and to
have babies in a tow thingy is just plain stupid, they will be the first to be hit............ COME ON PEOPLE, get a GRIP!!!!

k-rico.........just to add to your good info.
Mex 1 lanes are 9ft. no shoulder, many spots have no guardrails with a 300ft. drop............. US lanes are 12ft. with shoulders and guardrails. I
apoligize to the person that posted the pic. showing just how many inchs that that semi had left in the lane (thank you)...everytime I hear a "newbie"
ask questions about the hwy. I just want to drive with them to protect them, I'm a "mom" and I worry alot......but, I'm sorry, when I hear about bikes
and babies on the hwy. It just gets my blood boiling!

I've been stuck behind slow pokes many times. On a long haul- we would pull over and take a rest break before we let that ruin a beautiful drive.
But if you really have to get to "Point B"by dark it's hard to relax and take it.
