This morning, they are about a mile from Punta Estrella (the south end of San Felipe Bay) at 10:25am. They are not walking the coastline, but instead are on Hwy. 5.... which parallels the coast.

They camped on Saturday just south of the San felipe harbor (spot #31). They walked until about 7pm. Today they started earlier (7AM) and are following the hwy, making good progress. Each spot marker is emitted every 10 minutes. You can see the progress by following David's above link.

Take that back. They're doing about 1 mile per hour.

Are they walking on asphalt? Wouldn't that be like walking across a frying pan?

I think they're on dirt next to road whenever possible. The hwy around 3 sisters is gonna hurt: sun bouncing off those cliffs and no parallel road.

They're doing less than 1 mile per hour now and need to avg 20 miles per day. Something must change.

Sleep in day and walk at night? I don't think there's any place cool enough to sleep midday.

It's tough. Dump the schedule is the first step.

I think that they had gone 6.2 miles so far today at the 2:20 check-in. No check-in since then and it's 3:25 as I post this.

Is my calculation of 7.7 miles (12.4 km) from 6:30am to 6:00pm today accurate?

I'd say pretty darn accurate.

12 hours of walking is a lot of walking! They're still at it as of 6:30pm. They'll need to set up camp soon.

They took a break from noon to 5PM. An intersection with no shelter, no shade, and no homes close by. Hopefully someone was there with an air conditioned car or something.

I don't know how you can get exactly right but I got about 9.5 for today if they stayed on the road starting from just south of Villas de Las Palmas. I'm not sure how others are calculating but I used http://www.mapmyrun.com/ and used the follow roads option. I think they went 7.6 the first day. So maybe 17.1 for the two day total.

http://g.co/maps/w37gk

I input the GPS coordinates into Google Maps directions.

The Spot tracking shows they went until 6:52pm - and Google indicates they covered 15.4 km (?) - or 9.6 miles in over 12 hours.

Hmm.

Well, I've gotten to the point where I'm concerned that something really serious doesn't happen to our travelers. When I don't see the spot marker moving across the map in a reasonable amount of time I start to worry.

Whatever adjustments they're going to make to make this journey work out, I hope they do so before they get to Coco's. If anything happens between Coco and BOLA nobody will be around to help. That area is truly isolated.
