We have stayed at Terrasal about 6 times now including earlier this month. We have never encountered "squeaky rubber mattresses" or "automatic air
fresheners." Maybe just lucky. We wont stay anywhere else but Terrasal in GN now. Good french fries at the restaurant!

We stayed 3 times there - 2 nights last week and we had "squeaky rubber mattresses"  and "automatic air fresheners", too  .
But my husband removed the spray can and put it back the next morning.

I think they have rubber mattress and pillow covers on all the beds...maybe some people dont notice. I actually cant sleep well because I get too hot
with that non breathing rubber and there is no option to use less covers as there is only the duvet. We also had to "dismantle" the toxic air
fresheners every time...I'm jonesin for those fries now!

Don't think MX focus on what gringoes want. I've never heard of rubber mattress OR automatic air fresheners. And have never encountered them
in motels. This is the owners GREAT idea of providing hospitality.
So, I travel with my own sheets, comforter and pillows. Since MXdon't believe in wash cloths, I bring my own.
Just as long as the mattress doesn't have dried blood on it.
It's not fair to compare but I will. GN can't touch Baja Cactus or Cocos in Loreto. GN is the weak link in the trip along the Peninsula.

David...Terra Sal is the new kid on the block so is getting alot of attention...plus the owner is proactive when we make suggestions of how to improve
his hotel. He has the right idea...I see all the staff always cleaning cleaning cleaning when they have a moment free and they seem to be trained in
service too. Plus the low price they are offering is very alluring...but if they raise the price to reflect the quality of the hotel...maybe the old
places will be more attractive to the budget minded traveler. It was a smart move on his part to start off with a good price so people go there and
see what they offer.
I have had some long chats with Chavelo, the owner of Cowboy Hotel, who is really trying hard to create a nice hotel. He explained that his project
has phases and now that he has finished all the rooms he plans to build, he will focus on improvements like paving the parking lot and address the
other issues like garbage, expand the parking, security and staff. He replaced beds and pillows and seems very willing to make changes to improve his
hotel. I know he has limited funds, unlike other hotel owners so I give him some kudos for what he HAS accomplished and look forward to staying there
again.

My impression is they were doing a pretty good business at the various hotels in GN. For an excellent business model on how to fill a hotel...go to
Jardins Baja in San Quintin.

FYI on Las Dunas...they did not remodel and although very cheap...it probably wont due for most gringos.

Re the new hotels,... Ugh!
I still like the worn out mallarimos, it has ambiance and character, and good restaurant, nice bar too. Cost a couple extra bucks, but worth it.

Train? No train to Guerrero Negro. 
I am asking why nobody (I recall) has mentioned either this past year. A while back, that's all we heard about... Cowboy and Caracoles. Maybe I am
wrong, but that is what I noticed... so I was wondering why.
I ask questions to get the information, I don't just repeat what my party tells me is so.

What a strangely assumptive and accusatory comment to make Perhaps the
owners of other motels cannot afford upgrades to please all Nomads...or have them up to standards of some motels NOB....
While I enjoy Baja Cactus motel if I can get a new room there, I have found other motels in Baja to also be quite nice.
And the El Jardines in San Quintin is a remarkable find.....even by NOB standards.
As for " I don't just repeat what my party tells me is so." , I have to disagree: you constantly repeat the limited script of "your" party ...

I've never heard this phrase. What does it mean?
DK: don't recall raves about either place above. I've stayed at Mallarimmos -- old, stuffy, but I'll give it another look soon. Thought
Caracoles was a step up. I've only stayed in Suite 2 and last time thought it was depressing. Bed, tv, room generally though everything seemed
clean. I've seen the regular rooms there and would NOT stay in one. Small, depressing.
Cowboy seemed like a step up. Except touches I thought were lacking. I've covered the blood stained mattress -- only other objection would be the
parking lot when it fills up and the noise with people checking in. Can be rowdy and noisy in the morning.
I won't stay at Cowboy or Caracoles again. Terra Sal will have to work. Wonder if there's a mattress pad between the bottom sheet and the
rubber mattress.
DK: now might be a good time to bring up Al Gore? Ted is looking good, too, though Jeb might be a better pick.

Only here (it seems) the "usual suspects" can take an innocent thread about accommodations and turn it into (another) political rant.
I'm really tired of it.......why don't all of you - yeah, both sides - take your political crap to off topic where it (and you) belong and leave this

Jed, down here, how to keep customers coming back is not rocket science if you are in business for yorself. However, when the government is involved
there is no incentive to be productive... it's not your money on the line.
So, when you do things that people hate and won't come back, it is like not wanting to have more business... Hopefully these basic capitalistic ideas
will sink in. I wish all Mexican business to be successful... it's just hard to visualize what some are thinking when they do what they do.

having a bad day are we David? on topic - not all hotels want to cater to the gringo tourist. Some hotels are just plain nice by Mexican standards
and there is nothing wrong with that..and they seem to stay busy.
