What would keep a full size vehicle from doing this? Is there somewhere it would be too wide to fit through? Or more about getting high centered
because of the length?

THE PROBLEM". We can try it with our full size rigs, I have seen pix of Hummers (H2) in the mission ruins.... I say l;ets go PRESIDENTS DAY 2010 here
we go, because maybe by 2012 all will be gone anyways...

"Check out the videos I posted " - I've watched both videos and I'm not too concerned of the rocks.
The first thing that concerns me most are narrow shelf trails and it appears there's just a few. My front tire track (middle of tires) is just a bit
over 72 inches and the rear is even wider due to the dually. The overall width of the RV is over 7 1/2 feet, plus the side mirrors sticking out
several inches each side. That said, I've traversed a few "jeep only" trails in this RV with just the inside dually tire on the trail edge, and a lot
of body pinstripes.
The second thing that concerns me are those branches that arch over the trail. My RV is over 9 feet tall, with solar panels at the roof.
It looks like Jose's truck has a longer wheelbase than mine, which has a 146" wheelbase. I have the ARB locker at the 4 rear wheels; I have no plans
on putting a front diff locker unless/until "I didn't survive MSM" without it.

I don't think the width is much of problem from what I remember. If it is on some of the rocky hills we can move the rocks as necessary. The only
place a long truck might get high centered is at the top of widowmaker but again we can check it out going in. I'll bring a couple of long pry bars
and a high lift jack with wheel strap. Just like the covered wagons moving west one hill at a time. I seem to remember Ken Cooke getting high centered
on a tree stump some where I think coming out or while wandering around while there. Any water crossing should be checked out

Bajacat, first , take those steps off so the rocks don't do it for you. Then invest in lockers for the front and back. The lockers would be the best
thing you could do,once locked you will never go back.I like the detroit lockers,no air lines or wires or cables to break. The only thing is they are
not real street friendly.Locked front and rear and you should have no problem on this trail.
EDM1,I would recomend getting a locker for the front of your rig.then you should be able to make it nice and slow.
I have a CJ7 with dana 60's front and rear ,front has a detroit locker and the rear is welded.I have been through the Rubicon many times. My buddy runs
a full size 1958 chevy pickup with a 454, dual transfer cases,Dana 60 front and rear, with detroit lockers, sometimes he puts his cabover camper on and
goes through.
It's all about takeing the right line through the rocks and takeing it slow.If you are not locked front and rear you will undoughtedly have to get on
the throttle to make it over some rocks, thats when something will break.
Just my two cents worth. Good luck

Good Jose, I think too you need a locker at least for the rear diff.
Me? I ordered another ARB Air locker for my front Dana 60 diff. I should have some time this Xmas holidays to install it.
BTW, my RV's ground clearance at both front and rear is 26 inches, add another inch to the rear if I crank-up the airbag to max. My underbelly
clearance is a full 21 inches. Approach angle is a whopping 40-degrees. Bothdeparture and breakover angles - that's what sucks: 20-degrees - but you
have to consider the 21 and 26/27 inches of ground clearance.

Bajacat,I would love to go,But I just landscaped my backyard and that may be my Baja money(DavidK I think you know how expencesive Landscapeing
is:spingrin
Any way I will be watching BajaNomad for a date you decide on for the Santa Maria run.If I get a few more wells done and paid for I might be able to
make the trip.
I would really recommend putting a locker in the front as well as the rear, you won't beleive how much easier it will be to go slowly over the rough
stuff.
Last year when we were in Santispec I took my Jeep and my Canadian buddy ,Gordy, and went exploreing.Gordy had never seen what a Jeep like mine
would do.We headed north towrds Mulege took a right turn on a dirt road after we went over the hill and headed toward the Sea of Cortez. We got to the
ocean and turned back south toward Santispec.
Well everthing was fine for Gordy until we got to what Gordy thought would be the end of the road. The road continues on around the point and back to
Santispec,But ther are rocks about 3 to 4 feet in diameter in the road and only motorcycles had been useing this road.Gordy said "I guess this is the
end of the road.I got out and locked the hubs and drove over the rocks. There were rocks in the road all the way back to the beach at the point. A
couple of times I even puckered to the seat when the road was only wide enough for the Jeep and we had to climb over a 4 foot rock on the uphill side
and nothing but ocean and a 30 to 40 foot drop on the down hill side.
Any way my point is ,with out being locked front and back ,I never would have made it around that point. Whats the use in haveing four wheel drive
if only two wheels have power to them ( open front and rear) or three wheel drive ( locked in the rear or front only)

I think the length of a pickup could be an issue with high centering... and edm1, ground clearance is usually the distance from the differential to
the ground (or the lowest point uner your vehicle). My Tacoma is 9.5 inches (min. ground clearance)... Yours is not 26" (min. ground clearance), at
least from the photo I see... That would be a monster truck... and a ladder would be needed to get in and out.
The longer the rig, the more ground clearance would be needed to prevent high centering. Expect underbody damage on this trip... I have put dents
under both of my Tacomas, only on that road!

David K, true my differential ground clearance is 9.5 inches, but the rest of the body/bumper/underbelly is still 26/21/27 inches. Approach,
breakover, and departure angles are the significant components of ground clearance and vehicle's offroad capabiity.
Anyway, I'm still debating whether to even attempt MSM, though I'm definitely putting another ARB locker on my rig (the front axle this time). I'd be
happy to end up in Shell Island, instead.

Sounds great edm1, and I hope I can be there when you give it a try! Just slow crawling 4WD low range should do it!
Shell Island is a great get-a-way and that will be no problem for you!

Jose, any Baja trip from now on will depend on my work load for irrigation and lighting installations! At the moment, I don't have any jobs... and
with this depressing economy not getting better, it doesn't look good.
I hope I get calls for people intersted in upgrading their sprinkler systems to save water with the new MP Rotators or drip irrigation during the off
season!
I would prefer to go to Mision Santa Maria over Matomi Canyon... 4 days would be a min. # of days off needed. Whatever works out will be fine...
Matomi would be fine in a 3 day weekend... I just hope to be able to go anywhere in Baja again, soon!

Do you think Matomi canyon would be "easier" for my rig? I've never been to Matomi but have read quite a bit about it here in this forum.

Matomi is a piece of cake compared to Mision Santa Maria!

Nice photos... the 5th photo is the grade past the mission that drops down to the arroyo (where the oasis is we camped at)... Photo is showing the
return towards the mission. This grade is not rocky like the Widowmaker, but it is steeper with that final staircase ledge very challenging!
Here I am climbing it in 2003:
