Well, it sounds like the CHP closure has negated the need for any kind of confrontation between the teachers and the policia. No one for the teachers
to inhibit or protest to.

the latter every time.
The immigration issue is as much a statement of the failings of the Mexico as it is about the opportunities of the US.
Many of us are tired of the blame-game directed at US citizens as racist, when there is PLENTY OF BLAME TO GO AROUND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER.
In the meantime, the middle class of American can no longer afford to foot all the legal and medical billls that illegal immigration brings.
Maybe if Mexico had to shell out for a true defense budget to protect her borders (instead of relying on US treaties for defense of her borders from
external threats), she might feel the squeeze we are in.
Or, maybe if her super-rich, monopolizing ruling class had more compassion for her workers?
Space colonization wont make the burgeoning deficits of Medicare and Social Security go away, Toneart. That's our biggest threat, IMO.

Hook,
You are right, of course, about a lot of the things you say.
There is plenty of blame to go around. And yes, the best solution would be "to provide jobs where they live". How would that work? What part of that
could the Mexican Government facilitate. It did work in the U.S. when Roosevelt ended the depression with his WPA programs and a war industry at a
time when the people were supportive of us entering WW11. Indeed, Mexico's "super-rich, monopolizing ruling class" could and should have more
compassion. The problem with that is that "trickle down economics" doesn't work. The whole concept is ridiculous.....people are greedy!
Regarding Social Security....that's another bogus issue that the Republicans drummed up to detract from news generated by Iraq War news. If left
alone, as it was set up, it would survive, perhaps with a little tweaking (NOT privatizing!!). The S.S. lockbox has been raided....a betrayal to us
seniors. Medicare works well as far as a govenment program can. It's financial problems are part of the larger issue of our broken healthcare system.
It is in financial crisis because the insurance companies and the pharmasudical industry are ripping off you and me, and especially those who don't
have any medical insurance at all because it is unaffordable.
And yes, illegal immigration is indeed taxing our healthcare system...especially our emergency rooms.
I realize we are arguing classic visions of what is the function of government vs the private sector....in a democratic system. The visions are polar
opposites.
My point earlier was to try and show how we are seen by the Mexicans. If, as Woody says, "I don't care," well what can I say? That's an attitude and
in my opinion, a cop out. Also, racism does exist all over the world. Did you know that I am a racist? I/we were born into it. So is everybody. The way to help alleviate the harmful, hurtful consequences of racism is to,
first be aware of it. Use introspection and look into your heart and see what you can do to come to terms with it and bae aware. Make a difference. "I
don't care is not acceptable." I am very good friends with people who are of a different race than I. They tell me how they have been hurt during and
since childhood by racist treatment and attitudes and name calling. We can talk about it. They trust me because I am open and compassionate. We all
need that disscussion to not go away.....and to be respectful.
Sorry Hook. I didn't mean to dump on you personally. I just quoted you to use as a departure point....and then I kept on talking.

I just want to add that you people are driving me nuts.
Once upon a time I could read the title to a thread and say to myself,"hey self that looks interesting lets read it".
Now I have to look and see how many posts, who is responding, then start reading down to see the thread has taken on a life of its own, and now is
quite interesting.
Why do you have to make my life so difficult.

Minnow,
On many topics they do indeed seem to take on a life of their own. Conversations evolve. If a string has been hijacked and the topic is unrelated,
which sometimes happens, I would agree with you in that circumstance.
In this string, I would say we have stuck to the topic that was introduced by Bernie, with the posting of an article.

Thank you Judy. These photos do indeed show the protesters at the border. The earlier webcam didn't.
The caption on the first photo reads "Wednesday", though.
Regarding Ferna's radio show, I didn't want to download Apple's Real Time on my PC. My WMP won't play it.

I can't help but think these actions are motivated by more than one year retirement age.
