El Camote means The Camote.
I called myself that in case other wannabe camotes came along they'd know I was "THE" Camote.
Well that's the short version anyway.

My wife and I retired from the state of Alaska spending 20 years in the "bush". Longtime residents are known as sourdoughs, newbies are cheechakos.

Hi!
I am fairly new here, I've been enjoying reading here as of late as I am finally able to venture into my favorite place in the world later this year,
and catching up on the latest news through you all you guys and gals.
I've been a Baja addict since I was born. My parents took me ever since I was very young, and I've always enjoyed my fathers stories from back "in the
day"...
At this young age, I remember my dad stopping and showing me my first boojum tree. I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. Since then, I've
always had a fascination with them, and what other plant says "Baja" more than the Boojum tree?
I have a boojum tree that was a seedling when I collected it. (yes, I know its illegal now!!!) Its right outside my window and I look at it every day,
counting down the days until I will see its cousins in their natural habitat.
The fascination with Baja and Boojums is very strong with me, and thus creating the name was a simple decision!
See you all around!
PS-- I like Cardon's as well as you can tell from my avatar

My Baja Nomad Name
Is part my mother's nickname for me and part (the first) a tribute to a great friend.
Gypsy was known as the "Divine Gypsy" and he wrote columns for the motorcycle mags for several years. About five years ago, when my husband was in
Switzerland, he ran into a group of travelers picnicking in the park who knew all about him.
"Divine Gypsy", i.e., Mark Cohen, attended Cornell as a Engineering undergraduate and then transferred to Berkeley as a post graduate during the
'60's.
During his time there, he discovered peace, love and alternative lifestyles and never looked back.
He was funny, loud and raucous and loved topless women, but never lost sight of his core values and he quit drinking when he realized he had gotten
out of control.
His funeral was a full fledged biker event - more than 500 attendees from all over. (without being disrespectful, it resembled a cop's funeral - all
the colors were flying).
His sister, a former district attorney, embraced (kind of)) his lifestyle choices and sent us a portion of his ashes to spread in Baja because he
loved his time down here with us so much.
So, that is why I am Gypsy Jan.

Very cool! I have the same affection for boojum trees as you do! Sounds like your dad introduced you to Baja like my dad did... and I have since
introduced my son and daughter to Baja!
Somebody took a photo of me kissing a boojum after our hike to Tinaja de Yunay, in 2001:

I be Annie = ibannie........ you be Jack/John/Kate or whoever It came to me
after multiply tries of trying to find a screen name for a new email a good while ago. Last name = Baggett which is why blog is bajabaggs.blogspot.com
I am still re-living our month in Baja through a gazillion photos till we can
get down there again.
Loved this topic - one can normally figure out a little about the person by their user name.

Forgot to comment on my own handle, which I guess is fairly obvious. Now that I've been in Baja for a few years, I realize that technically "bajamigo"
means "low friend." (Glad I didn't choose "baja vida" or "baja inteligencia" or something like that.) Wouldn't mind changing the handle, but I
understand I would be relegated to newbie status if I did that.
