You did not answer the question. Any other nation in grey. In other words look how we compare

Why, oh why, would I want to live any place else?
If your pointing out that we appear to be the only Western Nation without Socialized Medicine my response is, "so???" We are also the most
prosperous, overall----for a reason. I have been to many of those blue Countries, and they are beautiful and interesting, but I would not want to
live there, for a variety of reasons, but the biggest reason is that I love living in this Country. Socialized Medicine is "nice", but I don't
believe that any Nation can afford it, for long, and still remain prosperous. And, more important and like I said, I believe that the concept is
corrosive to society------kills ambition, and just leads to more dependency. Perhaps I am wrong, but that is what the people that I respect tell me,
and until somebody convinces me otherwise I am going with what they tell me, and voting that way. This has little to do with "thinking for myself",
and a lot to do with my instincts, experience, and counsel by folks that I respect and should know what they are talking about-----that is all I got
to go on.

It's All My Fault
I was very impressed with David's post. And, I have enjoyed so many of his posts and photos. My fault, because I should have utilized U2U with my
recommendation. However, I think this thread demonstrates how valuable information can be diminished when politics gets involved. Once again, I took
no point of view politically; just suggested to David that his historic work would be better served if he didn't get involved in political rhetoric in
the same thread. Obviously, there are many points of view among the members of this forum. Great for lively debate. And yet, I'm gonna guess that
probably 99% of us all would enjoy standing around and quaffing a cerveza, swapping Baja stories. That said, perhaps 80% or more of this thread
actually does belong in off-topic.

Barry. you have hit the nub of the debate. It is exactly the idea of whether a nation can afford it without seriously impairing it's economic
vibrancy. Folk whom I have debated with about this make compelling arguments. Yet even they will, if they are honest, recognized the social toll this
takes upon our people. Geez. I don't have the answer. But what I do know is that too many people either don't get proper medical care, or fall though
the cracks by not paying for it. I saw a theory floated that basically took the position that in the next few election cycles, anything that the Obama
administration got passed could easily be reversed with a change in the makeup of congress, let alone the White House. So maybe it would do this
country good to have a tryout. Just saying. If it scews things up, we can change it again.

From what is being floated, a "tryout" is not going to happen with the bill that they are trying to pass as it will not take effect until 2013. How
does that help the uninsured the proponents of the bill are supposed to be so concerned about?

History tells us "no"------- these types of social programs once established in a Democracy (or Republic) will remain. Folks (and politicians) are
loath to vote out ANYTHING that they think benefits them directly, no matter what the cost------and Socialized Medicine certainly fits that senario.
As scholars have pointed out------folks will destroy a Country before they will vote out a program they believe benefits them NOW, and to hell with
what happens down the line (bankruptcy, and the end of a free society, and Country as we know it)
It may "pass", but not with my support. I do understand your arguments, tho, and appreciate and listen to them.
I personally have had zero problems with my health insurance-----and nobody in my family, or friends, have either.

Good point. The delay in enactment is just the result of all the compromises that have had to be made. The good thing about our form of government is
that change comes slowly. The bad thing about our government is that change comes slowly. I don't have the answer. I do recognize that there are many
people who truly believe that any form of public insurance will lead to major economic problems for this country. I have a tie to a Wall Street
insider who has told me that the big issue for big money is that funding such a program will make us just like Europe, with low economic growth and
high unemployment. I can understand that. On the other hand, there exixsts the specter of giving more people access to preventative care that should
theoretically result in lower long term health care costs. Gawd. I really wish I knew what was right.

Despite the sidetrack, this is great thread. My first PIC trip to Baja was in April of 1975. I flew a C177RG from Van Nuys to Palmilla with stops in
Mexicali and Mulege (Serenidad). After that first trip I made 68 more trips PIC, with the last one in June of 1989 to Loreto. My trips were in a
variety of rented airplanes (C172, 177, 182, 210, Beech F33 and A36) but most were in my own Baron 30SD. Favorite places were Punta Pescadero, Punta
San Francisquito, and Rancho Meling. Baja flying was a great part of my life, and I will never forget those trips. Here's a picture of my beautiful
old Baron at Rancho Santa Ynez:

Guys. I've enjoyed this alot. I truly believe that most of you are looking for the best for our great country. And we are only going to move forward
as a nation when people have calm, thoughtful and educated debates about this issues we face. I've gotta go now. But just wanted to express my
appreciation for the thoughtful posts. Like I said before, I don't have the answer. It's probably obvious that I lean toward the left. That said, I
value thoughtful and educated input. If only more folks on this board could act like adults. Thanks guys.

David I have a bunch of videotapes of both takeoffs and landings at San Francisquito, but unfortunately none of them are digital. Are you sure this
one was mine? ++Ken++

David - drawing a blank. I don't think I have ever had a link like that. I seem to remember Mike had a great video that he did with Greg that
included either a takeoff or a landing (or both) from San Francisquito. ++Ken++

of the ones Greg Joder took in my Comanche when i took him and his brother to the Turtle conservation group in Loreto. We stopped at PSFO for lunch.
there is a post here someplace that links to them on utube i think. or they are on his website. we hit an air sink pocket from a very strong
quartering headwind just over the palapas in short final.
landing airspeed was about 65 kts. ground speed was about 25 kts. you'll hear the engine go to max power just before touchdown to arrest the wind
shear effect.

The links both go to posts with links to Greg's web site. Unfortunately, Greg's web site/ forum has been 'closed' for quite some time... All you get
is a 'sorry' message.
The video I though was on Ken Bondy's web site was taken from someone on the ground filming a take off... Not film inside the plane as it is flying/
landing (as I recall Greg's was).
