Los Dolores: The Mission of Sorrows (June Baja Bound Bulletin)
Read about the two locations of the Dolores mission (between Loreto and La Paz) and how it came to be a new home for the mission that was at Ligüí,
in 1721.
Baja Nomad member Graham provides two of the photos of the 1721 site and more photos show the 1741 site, we also know by the name 'La Pasión' (which
was what the visita there was named before the mission moved to it).

Los Dolores road
I drove most of that road in April on my way north. I was traveling up the grade from San Evaristo and decided to take the northern route out to
highway one, but wound up taking a wrong turn.
I realized pretty quickly that I was headed the wrong direction, but it was an interesting drive, so I switched from travel mode to explorer.
Surprisingly, there were signs of recent road work, along with campaign signs for what ever politician represents that area. The road is in good
shape!
I drove about an hour and a half towards the coast, but due to concerns about fuel and a performance issue with my Trooper, I turned around before I
descended the grade to Los Burros.
Other than when I drove through the middle of a working ranch, I did not see another person or vehicle for over four hours!
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

There are two down grades to Los Burros, with the view into Los Dolores Canyon and mission between the two. I did not continue down the second grade
to Los Burros.

Note the square rock corral then look to the left of that for the standing walls of the mission church ruin... just above the closer ridge between me
and the mission.

I would like to hear from more of you who have either gone to the canyon's edge and looked down or hiked to the ruins... Please post photos. Baja

Because the 2014 photos from 'ashek' were hosted on Photobucket, and I refuse to pay for the (once free) site, it had the big watermark on all the
photos added. PostImages.org remains free but now I can also use my VivaBaja website to share photos from.
