The train is faster and nicer. $60 from ventura, less from L.A.

I take the Pacific Surfliner train from LA (Union Station) to San Diego (Santa Fe depot), then walk across the street and take the Trolly from San Diego to San Ysidro (you can also catch the Trolly right from the surfliner stop), then walk across the border and take a collectivo to downtown TJ (or walk). I like the Surfliner much more than the Greyhound bus, which I have also used in the past. The last time I rode the surfliner on this route (about three months ago), the cost was thirty some dollars. They have a seniors discount.

Vans or busses may be cheaper than train, and just about the same speed, and offer more schedule flexibility. There are quite a few businesses that run vans or busses between TJ and OC or LA. i see them often on I5. If you google you will find a few…. FlixBus and Tufesa run busses from LA and OC to SY, TJ, TJ airport, etc.

The only direct way to get from LA to Tijuana long-distance bus station in Otay-ish area is to take Greyhound. OTH the cheapest way would be taking Greyhound to San Diego, then a trolley to the border, walk across the border and then take Tijiana transit bus or collectivo to that bus station. Could be complicated for somebody who never did it before. That is, if you need that bus station. Depends how far you are in Baja. Interesting thread, without destination.
