November Trip Report Mexicali to Cabo
The roads through Mexicali are about as good as the streets in Los Angeles. The National Guard had several floating Checkpoints setup.
The road to San Felipe is generally in good shape with a few potholes. Not much new there. Tried La Casita De Tony for breakfast! Great food, large
servings, low prices!
The road south to the Hwy 1 junction still has random potholes but close to San Felipe repairs are underway.
Hwy5/1 junction south to the LA Bay turnoff is generally good.
The worst part of the road is the section between LA Bay and Jesus y Maria. Drive carful lots of problems!
J Y M to the 28th is OK with no major problems.
The 28th to Vizcaino is generally in good shape with several floating Checkpoints. Try the food at Hotel and Restaurant Martitha very clean and good
food.
Vizcaino to San Ignacio generally good road with a few potholes.
San Ignacio visit Ignacio Springs B & B Nice people good dinners and Breakfasts. Stay in a Yurt.
San Ignacio to Santa Rosalia potholes and wandering cattle
Good chinese food on the way out of San Rosalia.
Road south of Santa Rosalia is generally good. Traffic through La Paz and Cabo are as bad as ever.
We drove from San Felipe to Cerritos in two days stopping in San Ignacio overnight with no problems.

Thanks for this Trip Report.
How does the traffic on Highway 5 from San Filipe to San Luis Gonzaga compare to the mid-Baja traffic on the Highway 1? On Highway 1, I cancelled
plans to ride a bicycle between Loreto and Mulege because of traffic danger. I am wondering if the mentioned section of the Highway 5 would be less
traveled and thus safer.

I am a biker…. South of san felipe is a newer section of 5 that has wider lanes and wide shoulders. Not sure what mile marker the new road starts.
The new hwy is better for bikes. But it is often very windy and hot on the 5, so often not good weather for riding. The 5 has long, straight
sections that are pretty boring for biking.
Baja is really not very good for touring, baja does not rank high on my list for touring. If you want to tour in a desert, there are much better
places to tour in the USA southwest deserts.

We passed lots of bikers. Often where the road is narrow. The truck traffic makes passing cyclists a white knuckle experience!
