Cabo Fishing Report - October 14, 2026 - Sailfish

Cabo Fishing Report - October 14, 2026 - Sailfish

An eighth birthday celebration turned into a memorable Baja fishing experience when a sailfish struck a squid lure aboard the 32-foot Luhrs Blue Star on October 14, 2026.

Returning guests Michael, Austin, and eight-year-old Michael Jr. joined Captain Chewy and Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charters for a private offshore trip departing Cabo San Lucas at 7:00 AM.

The family had arranged a five-hour charter with tournament-style dredge equipment. Their confirmed catch was one sailfish landed, although an unexpected mechanical issue interrupted the scheduled outing.

October 14 Fishing Snapshot

Vessel: 32' Luhrs Blue Star | Captain: Chewy | Departure: 7:00 AM

Guests: Michael, Austin, Michael Jr. | Scheduled Duration: 5 Hours | Occasion: Eighth Birthday

Catch: 1 Sailfish Landed | Strike Presentation: Squid Lure | Equipment: Tournament Dredge

Cabo Offshore Fishing Opportunities During an October Family Charter

The waters surrounding the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula support a variety of offshore game fish.

Depending on seasonal conditions, visiting anglers may encounter marlin, sailfish, dorado, tuna, and other species.

Sailfish are especially recognizable because of their elongated bills and large, sail-shaped dorsal fins.

For families exploring Baja California Sur, catching a billfish can become one of the most memorable experiences of a fishing vacation.

That was the case for Michael Jr., whose eighth birthday outing included a successful sailfish encounter aboard the Blue Star.

The fishing record does not identify the exact grounds where the fish struck, so no specific offshore bank or location can be confirmed.

Cabo Squid Lure Fishing Presentation Produces a Sailfish During a Charter

Captain Chewy and the Blue Star crew used an offshore trolling setup that included an artificial squid lure.

The sailfish attacked the squid presentation and was successfully brought alongside the boat.

Artificial squid lures are used in offshore trolling because their profile and movement can imitate prey pursued by predatory fish.

The crew also deployed tournament-style dredge equipment designed to resemble a school of baitfish moving beneath the surface.

Dredges can be used to attract offshore predators toward a trolling spread, but the October 14 record does not establish whether the dredge influenced this particular sailfish.

What is confirmed is that the fish struck a squid lure and was landed.

The sailfish's measurements, hookup time, and release status were not documented.

Cabo Family Fishing Celebration Meets an Unexpected Charter Interruption

Michael, Austin, and Michael Jr. were returning guests of Blue Sky Cabo, choosing another private fishing adventure to celebrate a special occasion.

The 32-foot Luhrs Blue Star was scheduled for five hours on the water, beginning at 7:00 AM.

Unfortunately, a mechanical breakdown interrupted the trip before the planned fishing duration was completed.

Blue Sky Cabo addressed the disruption by refunding both invoices associated with the reservation.

Although the interruption affected the family's plans, the sailfish encounter remained the highlight of Michael Jr.'s birthday outing.

Cabo Baja Fishing Reports and Responsible Private Charter Documentation

Fishing around southern Baja California can be unpredictable, even with an experienced captain and specialized offshore equipment.

Some outings produce multiple fish, while others may be remembered for one exceptional encounter.

For the October 14 charter, the confirmed result was one sailfish landed.

No additional catches were documented, and the record does not confirm that the sailfish was released.

Blue Sky Cabo Fishing and Tours operates private sportfishing trips from F Dock at IGY Marina in Cabo San Lucas.

For Baja anglers following fishing activity around the peninsula, this report documents a genuine October sailfish strike on a squid lure during a family birthday charter.

Advertising on BN site?

.Thanks for posting an informative daily fishing report BlueSky.

After checking your daily fishing report, I'm kind of thinking it's gone from regular Baja chat into straight-up advertising. The Baja Nomad rules as per the website state:

"2. Topics should be posted in the forum most applicable to the subject of the posting. Advertising is only allowed in the Classifieds section."

I'm happy you're on the fish, and your clients are catching them. Maybe just post your daily activity/ads in the classifieds where they belong. Just my 2 peso's worth. Thanks! Cameron

5 hours, one fish, and the boat broke down. Ugh!

Reading these guys fishing reports along with an Phoenix phone number, it is clear they don't have a clue what they are doing.

Spending $2 to $5K to get six hour boat ride and breakfast on polished yacht is not sportfishing.
