Here are some of our best times beating the heat in Baja...what are yours?

Hot pigs at 9 Palms

These guys lived at the Rancho in the arroyo at 9 Palms where we were camped in the heat of one summer.

The group of 5 would mosey down in the afternoon and plop themselves on the water's edge in front of our camp. Some would dig for crabs and others would frolick in the water or lie in the cool wet sand.

They would dig with their snouts and flip the sandcrabs up in to the air. One guy could flip a crab up out of the sand and catch it in his mouth.

They didn't pay much attention to the people camping, surfing,or walking on the beach. I started saving watermelon rinds for them and they'd swing by our camper after their swim to see what was happening.

One day the group wandered around the point and came running back down the beach a few minutes later and disappeared up the arroyo. The leader had a bag of Oreos in his mouth. One of the other campers came in from surfing and said that he watched them go directly to his ice chest, fiddle with the latch, flip open the lid, and grab the cookies.

It's a 'Beer Bidet', as they say!

...From the Bidet to the Belly...seems like it's usually the other way around, eh'.

I wonder what Salt Water Carnitas would taste like, probably nice and tender!

The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.
