Pompano

You can research San Diego bus scheduals to get to greyhound San Diego, take that to TJ Main bus terminal. Know there is one going your area 6PM and 9PM. If you get downtown take trolly to border walk over take a cab $12.00 to Main Buss Terminal, you can also get a bus to do it but much harder to get correct bus.

You can go from the airport to down town S.D via bus. Hop on the trolley and ride it to the end of the line. Walk across the border to the ABC terminal. You don't need to go to the central bus station, the ABC terminal near the border is easy and quick to walk to (maybe ten minutes walking from the border). ABC buses are comfortable with bathrooms/AC and movies.

If this sounds like it's too much; you can hop a Grey Hound in San Diego that will take you directly to the central camionera in Tijuana.

I have no problem with the trolley or walking, but how do you find the ABC terminal once you've crossed the border? I can always ask for "el terminal de autobuses Ah Bay Say," but that's probably not what a native speaker would say anyway.

And does anyone know a working URL for the ABC bus schedule? Last time I looked, it was offline.

There is a bus terminal on Revolucion and 6th. The Mexicoach bus goes directly there, or you can walk or take a taxi. If you want the Mexicoach bus to cross the border, you walk northwest across the bridge (over Int. 5), and it's right on the corner in the parking lot - you'll see the kiosk and the red buses. It's about $3.50 and they leave about 1/2 hr. Also, if you take the bus from the airport to the trolley line, remember that you can use your bus transfer for the trolley if used within 2 hours. It's only about $2.50 for the whole ride from the airport to the border. Also, there is a bus "storefront" very near the migra office, if you're walking through the north entrance (which is a much shorter walk than walking from the end of the trolley line entrance), to make reservations and for information. If you think you want to take Greyhound to the bus terminal, remember that they have a schedule, and you'd have to wait for their next departure. The Greyhound is on Broadway and 2nd in SD, and you can take the bus from the airport to that point if you want. If you decide to take a taxi to the main bus terminal, take the white Libre taxis which are cheaper than the yellow taxis. It will cost $10 to go to the airport/bus terminal in a yellow taxi. If you go to the main bus terminal, you could choose whichever bus line is leaving next, instead of waiting specifically for the ABC bus. In any event, there are many options.

I'm not great at giving directions but I'll give it a shot: After you walk through the baggage inspection keep walking straight through the turnstiles. Don't go right. Keep walking pass the parking lot full of taxis (on the left and taco stands on your right) until you reach the Caliente. Across the street is the plaza of Americas? Anyways the plaza with all the pharmacies and souvenier shops and bad restaurants. Cross the street and go left down the sidewalk. At the end of the block, if you look right, you will see the ABC terminal. Hope this helps.

This terminal is called la linea. For example if I buy a ticket in Ensenada I tell them I want to go to la linea and this is where I'll end up. A hell of alot closer to the border than the central bus station.:tumble:

The abc website doesn't work for me either.

You can board the ABC bus at the border terminal however you will have to change buses at the central bus station in TJ. Departures from the central bus station are- 8am, 12pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm. All of these buses are express to Mulege. Cost is 716 pesos one way. Hope this helps

SHARKS, I know Baja very well, just not the bus schedules...which ones have onboard toilets and movies, drinks, etc. ...or where they are in TJ?...and how to get to them from the border. I imagine I could easily research this when arriving, but thought a quick answer here would be better from experienced Baja travelers.

Now if you want a detailed layout of your house in Roberto's compound I can give you one. I've gone to enough parties there over the years when it belonged to some friends with a southern drawl. I lovingly called her Olive Oil...and Sam from DonnaMoe's Pizza was in love with her!

Actually I would like a layout of YOUR house in Coyote Bay. Is it for sale?

There is a direct bus to TJ from the train station in San Diego. I don't know the schedule. You could probably find out online.

Summer steelhead should be running up the Sandy River right about now (my home waters). 8wt fly rod and some red and black bunny leaches work well. Oregon saw very little rain last winter so the water levels are sure to be low. Making an already spooky fish even spookier;D. Good luck.

Deschutes out of Maupin should see a good run of fish also.

Big portions and good too..

Pompano, you and your guests will be received with open arms. Thanks for including us in your itinerary. I am there everday for opening at 4pm. Closed wed&thurs. It's matter of how busy we are during weekdays if I work the entire evening. Iam always there weekends. My beautiful wife Karen (pronounced Car-in, another Norwegian) will be there AT ALL TIMES , god bless her. Don't worry though I keep connected to "Sharks" with a web cam and can spot a Norseman 5oo leagues away. Hope you got your travel woes straightened out. If you like BIG portions, you will be in the right place Thanks, Corky

fishing the deschutes river

Pompano. If you want a report for trout 2 miles below the Wikiup Resv. which feeds the Deschutes, let me know, and I'll call my cousin who lives at the Haner Park (Elks Lodge reserve) and get a first hand report. Phil S now in Roseburg Oregon for the summer. And enjoying the North Umpqua River (brother lives on it)

SHARKS, Yes, our Coyote house is for sale...if not sold already. You can find it on BajaQuest or Viviun among others. You could do a search: Baja beachhomes for sale should bring it up. We think the layout is superb and spacious. A large waterfront home with all the goodies and space to build more.

We will be coming up the coast towards some Oregon/Washington salmon fishing around the 20th or so...then on to Vancouver Island and Tofino Bay for more of the same..only bigger. We will stop by Newport for a dinner at Sharks with some Bend/Mulege friends and take a few pics for the nomads. We will be back on the 4th for an annual Newport bash with the same group. We will need bibs..cuz we tend to overdo things a bit!

I'm sure you did the right thing and informed the "potential" new owners about the problems they are having there with the proximity to the federal zone. How do you move a house that size back 50 more yards from the high tide line anyway?

Comitan: I was referring to the red "Mexicoach" (says "Mexicoach" right on them) buses. They are tourist buses that board on the US side adjacent to the San Ysidro shopping center - the furthest point south in a parking lot on the corner. They go to downtown TJ (the bus station on Revolucion) and to Rosarito exclusively, so you really can't get on the wrong bus. If you park your car on the street in front of the shopping center, it's a good way to get across and back to your car without the long walk, especially if you're carrying a lot of stuff. Although sometimes, when the walk-across line is very long, they will drive to Otay where the walk-across line is very short, re-board everyone and drive back to San Ysidro. If you have the time, it's not a hassle at all, and the price is right - only about $3.50 one way.
