Gone to Baja trip report "I ride whale sharks"
Here is a link to my last trip to the Enchanted Islands. Yes the post is true, I rode a whale shark just 30 miles south of Puertecitos. I will be
adding pics to the report tomorrow. the Puertecitos launch ramp is now home to the Mexican Military patrol boats. Expect to be searched when you
enter the harbor. The road to Puertecitos is still bad but parts are getting fixed, the road to Gonzaga is still the tire shredding monster we all
know and love.

Great report Dale. You are very lucky, particularly getting the whale shark encounter on video. They are common in Bahia de Los Angeles in the late
summer but to the best of my knowledge pretty unusual in Gonzaga Bay. Thanks,

Ken, Lucky is not the word. The word is blessed. After all of the discussion about my grouper hunting I had began to wonder if my ocean Karma was
getting low. Now I know that I am still in good standing with the man upstairs if he lets me ride on one of his beautifull fish! We werent looking
for this thing we just happend upon him, and he let us ride several times.
Truly a mind blowing experience. When I got back in the boat my chest was hurting and I couldnt figure out what the problem was. Then I watch the
video and see him take me down to 60 +feet while freediving and then I realize. You dont realize how fast a whale shark swims untill you try to swim
him down.
Im still hardly believe it myself, If I didnt have the video to watch over and over I would have though I halucinated the whole thing!

PICS ARE UP!!!!
The pics are up now on the link. Im not sure whats up with the trailer Capt. Mike. On some computers it works (my friends) and some it dosent
(mine). I can tell you that there are alot of big fish in the trailer and its cool. I saw it today when we were in the edit studio. The pics are of
some leopard grouper, 1 Gulf grouper and 1 Golden Grouper (a mutated lepoard grouper). There are also some underwater pics and some sea lion pics.
And we got a still frame off of the video of me and my buddy Eric riding a whale shark.
Skin is already reacting to this cold air in San Diego, Im gonna have to go down again in a couple of weeks to warm back up.
3 weeks and counting till my next trip to the islands.....

Awesome report Dale!
I got to swim with 2 of them off the beach at Alfonsinas about 5 years ago and I remember being 8 years old and intertubing behind a boat in the bay
only to go right over top of one. I had no idea what the hell it was and it scared the chit out of me. Lucky you.

Like I said the only person that wasnt suprised is the old man that lives in the trailer behind Alfonsinas, he said the same thing as you. I
personaly have never seen one in all of the time I have been going to the islands.
By the way, we only shot one Gulfy. Maybe because I went out with that intent that I got some good luck on something completely different. Also if
you look on the pics you can see a mother sea lion grabbing her baby out of the water when I swam by with the camera, it was touching. When I saw her
all stressed out we left the area.

Cool Dale! I wish I were there right now. The vis looked kinda murky, how was it? It seems like it never really gets more than 40 feet.

Vis was the usual 15-20 feet. I have caught it at 40 feet a few times but it seem like thats only in early spring or late summer. As the water warms
way up hopefully the vis gets better. As long as we have 15 feet its still huntable. I like it when the vis is like that because the fish dont see
you untill they are in range
There is alot of this type of alge(I think) it looks like shredded toilet paper in the water. My face also got stung up a little by the new hatch of
those super small jellyfish.
Still worth the price of admission to ride the whale shark!

Yeah, I think its much easier to shoot Cabrilla when the vis is 10 ft because they cant see you. It seems llike when its really clear, the Cabrilla
wont get near you. I hate those microscopic jellies and the sea lice. Hey, Can you tell me how to post pics? I have them on my computer but when I
click on the pic button it gives me a field box with an http//. Do I need to post the pics to a website or something? Im an idiot and stil havent
figured it out.

I dont know how to post the pics, I take up my camera to my producer and he does that stuff for me. I have no idea how to do the pic thing. I know
it requires alot of re sizing and stuff.
I have a way to keep the jellies off of your face. If you use a stocking like you are robbing a bank, then they will bounce off of your face cause
they dont touch your skin. You can cut a hole for your mask and snorkel. Its the easy way to dive jelly swarms. I didnt have my stocking this trip
because the jelly season is just getting started. Next time for sure.
