Anonymous Posts

On another thread, someone recently pointed out--in a snickering sort of way--that nearly all Nomads are anonymous, because we post under User IDs.

I have to disagree with that. People who post as "Anonymous" have no identity whatsoever. The entire world is welcome to use this generic cop-out.

In contrast, the IDs of those of us who post here regularly identify each of us personally. I've met very few Nomads in real life, but there are a lot of others whose views--both peninsular and political--are familiar to me.

Looking at their IDs, I know who is likely to agree with any Off-Topic posts I enter, as well as who is going to call me a stupid misguided kook. The name "Anonymous," on the other hand, tells me zip.

If someone visits the Nomad board casually and doesn't want to bother registering, that's understandable, but I think people who care enough to post their opinions more than once should be responsible enough to attribute their views to an ID.

There is admittedly a certain anonymous nature to the use of handles, but at least it does identify the personality, interests, style, etc. of each handle. When you post "Anonymous" you lump yourself in with every other "Anonymous" poster.
