CABO MAGIC Sportfishing Summary 26 June to 02 July

99 Captains report the following summary numbers during this period

1 Swordfish
12 Striped Marlin
1 Pacific Sailfish
165 Yellowfin Tuna
20 Dorado
15 Wahoo
6 Roosterfish
1 Mako Shark
9 Jack Crevalle
10 Boats were skunked

This weeks period started out with continued weather and water conditions more typical of springtime - but shifted to "Its Summertime!" by weeks end.

The phenomenon of conditions that produces great fishing and even greater catching seems to finally have arrived! This is when the water temperatures and currents, and temperature breaks line up exactly as the great Athletes of the Ocean follow.

Here at Lands End, we have two powerful bodies of water crashing together, the Grand Sea of Cortez to the east and the Majestic Pacific Ocean to our West. The temperature breaks shift constantly and often rapidly and this is what makes the hunt more complicated.

When you are packing for your trip, please remember that one of the most important items to remember is sunscreen and other personal items for sun protection. The sun here in the tropics is strong, the UV index is very high, and, the sun will reflect off of the water too.

When you are coming to fish with us, the second most important item we recommend you bring along - and suggest you stuff lots of this in your sox and pockets when packing - is "Suerte" ... this is the Spanish word for "Luck"!

Fishing is fishing and altho all crews will work hard to get you on the fish, sometimes its just not meant to be. Hard to imagine but the crews will be as disappointed as guests if they are skunked...

We finally see the arrival of this Acrobat of the Water, the DORADO. Some of you know this delicious fish as "Mahi-Mahi". More than a dozen Wahoo this period and all were well over 50# each. Yellowfin Tuna action has been great again this week with mostly football and mediusized fish tho we did have a few tournament-sized fish again this period. Remember the Western Outdoor News Tuna Tournament in November! One 200# swordfish boated last Sunday when the waters still had lots of cool green to them. Inshore the Roosterfish provide fun. Sierra and Jack Crevalle too.

Please visit our daily catch report at http://www.cabomagic.com/fishreport.aspx to see all the results. For those of you wishing to do compartive study we maintain an archive of our reports going back to the year 2000.
