trading fm3 renewal dates
Acquiring a fm3 rentista during a month in which you will never be able to be in Mexico to renew it is a mistake, unless one cares to make a special
trip to Mexico every year at that time. It appears our solution is to allow it to expire, and apply for the new one during the month in which we will
always be in Mexico to renew it. Has anyone tried this, and is it ok to just trash the old one after the expiration date and start from scratch?

Have not done it (just made the trips in Aug) but have heard of it done by othere who get the FM3 at a consulate in the US. At that tiem- 5-6 years
ago - they seemed to have no problems.

In San Felipe, it is a major deal to let one's FM3 expire. It will require more paper work & alot more money for the fines. Submit earlier than
needed and who cares if it sits for a couple of months before being processed. Explain why. Better yet, use one of the Lic. agents that will process
it for you. Money well spent.

I'm in San Felipe and haven't had that experience of major paper work if I was late - just the penalty of about $20 a day. Rather not have to pay it
- but that's life when I procratinate.
I would rather not have my FM tied up for several months waiting for it to be processed. I have been asked for it several times when entering Mexico
and need it to get a auto permit for Sonora and east. The people in Imigration are very helpful in getting renewals done.

We tried to submit the renewal early and were told it was outside of the 30 day window for renewal. The law does not allow for that. Sounds like in
certain places you can submit early and go on your way, pay a licensed individual to file it for you, and mail the fm3 to you when it is done. Ours
is one day expired now, and the home base was Puerto Vallarta. The immigration site said the fine was $5 per day.

Does Hugo have a phone number? Perhaps he could fix our fm3's from San Felipe even though our part time residence is in Puerto Vallarta....

I don't know that anyone is "licensed" to do this but there are lots of people including accountants that make a business of handeling these things.
I think it's pretty clear that the renewal must be done where you live. Also there are papers to sign when you pick up your renewed FM.
(had I thought of letting the first one expire and getting a new one at a more convienent time of year, I sure would have. Would have saved me a lot
of bother (and extra trips a time or two)
