Quickest route through Ensenada?

My guide book says to take Highway 1-D to avoid downtown traffic, but I always miss the turn out. If Highway 1-D is the best route through town, does anyone have a GPS point or other distinguishing point I should use so I don't miss it?

If this isn't the best route through town, could someone please recommend a different, faster route.

Thanks!

We have tried both routes, both of which start on the north side of town. One will continue straight into downtown and the other goes into the tourist zone.

Having used both it seems the tourist zone is easier. Travel past the huge Mexican flag and turn left at the navy base. Continue up that street, past the hospital to the main hwy out of town .Turn right at the Gigante and head south...thats as good as I know...

If you continue straight

at the navy base (south) you can go to any of the stop signs and turn left to get to highway one. The disadvantage is you should probably keep your windows up.

Going the tourist route is much faster, either to San Felipe or South toward San Quintin. The only time I go the other way is if I have to stop at Smart and Final.

late one FOGGY night last december we missed the turn at the navy base. 15mph following the sometimes middle line, other times squinting at the curb to judge if we were even on a road! well we made it to the "T" at the highway and proceeded south kinda befuddled. "where the hell did we just come from, and where were all the stores?"

well, on the way home we figured out where we'd been and, "E-ho-ley", talk about the wrong side of the tracks!!! just proves the theory, what you don't know won't hurt ya!

Have definitely lived here too long and/or traveled that route too many times, because I never thought it was so bad!!! Just think it stinks terrible from the fish factories. Guess it's all relative. :barf:

There's a route to SF from here? How many hours does it take?

If your going to San Felipe the calle 10-11 route gets you to highway 3 quicker than the tourist route.

Hose - you better be careful giving out all the good routes. They'll be too crowded for us "locals" :) And whatever you do - don't tell all as far as the best cantinas/restaurants go!!!

Ouch, Hose A!

I've posted about what I feel are non-touristy restaurants in Ensenada and am eager to hear about more.

Please share!
