Bamboo cracks

but, there are some methods of reducing the problem. Dry the pieces in the shade either standing up or off the ground laying horizontally.
Drill a small hole 1/8" or less in each section to release the gas inside.
Soak in water for 3 months after cutting. This also removes whatever the bugs like so it is a really good method althugh time consuming.
Depending on where in the u.s., it may just be too hot or dry to cure properly. If this is the case, you might try all the above with a tarp over it and some moisure being added daily but this I haven't had to try.

Do you soak in ocean water or fresh?
I am on a cool windy beach so I may have a chance..
In the past I have pretty well ignored it on the side of the house, off the ground, and turned it every six weeks or so. Most of it cracks.. Will try the small hole technique..
