More sharks

What kind of shark encounters have you had in the Sea of Cortez?

I took this photo this year in the northern Sea of Cortez.

Once, years ago, we had a shark hit our sailboat with its mouth as if it was testing it to see how tasty it was...:yes::yes:

Greg

I have had many memorable encounters with sharks in the Sea of Cortez over the past thirty years. On scuba, I have swum with and photographed hammerheads and silkies many times. Seeing a school of hammerheads numbering in the hundreds is perhaps one of the most spectacular of any underwater sight. No-one who has seen it will ever forget it. Silkies are perhaps the most curious and/or agressive shark I have ever seen underwater. I have pushed them away with my fins and/or camera many times. They are also very beautiful, classic shark shapes with a striking bronze color. On snorkel, I have swum with and photographed whale sharks in Bahia de Los Angeles on two occasions Near San Francisquito, I have seen magnificent threshers jumping clear of the water many times. Unfortunately there I have also seen pangas filled with their fins. Sharks are magnificent, beautiful animals and it is a shame their behavior and importance to the oceans is so widely misunderstood.
