Appliances in Mexicali

A friend asked this on a yahoo group I belong to - but think this board should have answers for them.

We have sold most of our appliances up here,
preferring to buy new down there. However, we
found a pitifully small selection between Costco,
Home Depot, the muebleria on Chetumal, etc.
We will be needing washer, dryer, upright
freezer, oven, dishwasher, etc. Is there any
place in either San Felipe or Mexicali that is a
REALLY REALLY large appliance store that would
have a good selection and brands like Maytag and
Whirlpool? If we do buy across the border and
bring some down on a trailer, what is the duty on
them at customs?

Any ideas I can pass on?

He said he didn't like the selection at Home Depot so figured find him somewhere else to look.

In Hermosillo on the mainland there is an Ace which has the best appliances by a wide margin (Bosch, GE, Whirlpool). Maybe there is one in Mexicali??
