...Pelicans

bajajudy...I am originally from the Dakotas where a refuge exists that holds the largest concentration of white pelicans in the world...over 20,000 at at time nest there at Chase Lake. Truly a sight to behold. Some recent events are being studied as to why their nesting habits have been disrupted to a certain degree.

WOW

That is really something Pompano. They used to nest in the San Jose Estero but I havent seen any since the marina construction started. I was in a kayak with my Sony trying to get some shots but neither the wind nor the sony would cooperate.

Great photos. Wise birds.

We were camping at Estero Coyote in February 98 where we were treated to the sight of a flock of 150-200 white pelicans feeding at the mouth of the estero. It was an amazing sight and the first time I had seen the white pelican. Large concentrations of other bird species at the estero then, including 100's of curlews running up and down the shoreline. Nice place for birdwatching.
