Brandt Season?

Any one on here thinking of Brandt hunting this season in San Quintin?

I have several friends there who are licensed guides and I have a new black lab graduating this month from boot camp and if anyone is interested and has a good dog or two I would like to perhaps hunt together and teach my dog some manners and that hunting from the boat thing.

Don Jorge!! heck yeah, i have been inquiring about bird murder and the killing and eating of the lessor goose species for several years (24!) after 1st reading about it in one of the early Senterfitt baja guides. I asked Juanita Pertersen of Ceilito Lindo fame once and she said it used to be popular but the tighter gun laws and fees closed most of it down, and the guides left.

i am a bird shooter taught the sport in Kansas as a youth and since moving to AZ have missed the ritual greatly, in fact have to fly back home about every other year to commit sport against the pheasant population and get a "fix".

what are the rates, i last checked on forms and fees to bring in my own shootin' irons and WHOA!! so i guess have to use concessionaires equipment?

stay where? i can fly in to CL and meet.
i checked the rates for the duck compounds around La Press in Sonora and other lake "cast and blast" resorts and they are very pricey.

what can we do? i am "game" so to speak.

pls contact me. Fall waterfowl shootin' is a blast......NPI

Where to stay?

Don Eddie's, next to Old Mill, in SQ is known for catering to Brandt hunters. They can probably help with guide arrangements too.

I hear you Mike. Give me a couple of weeks to put some specifics together. My buddy Tiburon had a few too many Brandts in his bag last year but I'm sure he's good to go. He knows the game.

I do not plan on bringing my iron down, way too much hassle.

He had Rem 870's last I heard. I am outta here today for a boat ride from Dana Point to Punta Colnett. Hopefully catch some fish. Back Sunday at the Coral to leave the boat and home Monday.

Next week I will go to Ensenda and talk with SEMARNAP and get some beta.

How many can go? Capt, Jorge, Pompano, anyone else. And what days work for Pompano? He is coming from farthest.

I would like to set the dates up soon so I can schedule a Shasta shoot too. It sounds great too me, just give me some time to check it out.

Although the exact dates of the 2005 season are hard to come by and I have not had time to visit SEMERNAP yet the general season runs from the third week of October until the third week of February.

Birds begin arriving in October, best hunting is in December /January. I am hoping to set something up for mid December with Alberto Flores, "Tiburon." I will be in San Quintin this weekend fishing and try to get some specific dates available, guns to be used, costs, etc.

Will let you know when I get back. I am in Costa Rica in January and the Dominican Republic in February so it has to be December for me. Who else will this work for so I can have an idea of group size?

I go pick up my pup from boot camp next week and hope she lives up to her breeding! She's been gone 3 months and the yard sure looks good again!

Some brandts at San Quintin:

Nice brandt flock, Don Jorge...

Up here the snows are getting bunched up for the trip..the speckles have already pretty much gone already. We will be intercepting them down on the Saskatchewan River in western province and then in Montana/ND. Good luck on that Baja San Quentin hunt. I sure wish we could make all the hunts but those brandt are too far too soon..if you have another lined up later on let us know. I will bring my chocolate. Keep 'em flying & Support DU.

Do they all have the same markings. I took this in San Ignacio and always wondered what it was. Hope you can see it!
