Old Off Road Racing Photos

These are some of the pictures in my Baja Album on my years involved in off road racing:

Parnelli Jones the day before the '73 Baja 1000:

Mickey Thompson in his rear engine Chevy LUV racer, Valle Trinidad, '75 Baja Internacional (500):

Mickey and son Danny (examining tire):

Ivan Stewart just having won the '75 Baja 300 in Santo Tomas:

This racer broke down somewhere and borrowed a rancher's horse to return to the pits ('75 Baja 300, Sto. Tomas):

Parnelli Jones and Dick Russell in his Chevy Blazer racer getting fuel in Valle Trinidad at the '75 Baja 1000.

'Wally' almost rolls in the '78 Baja Internacional (500) near Nuevo Junction:

22 year old co-pilot David K testing the Class 6 racer before the '79 Baja 1000 (SCORE's 1st race to La Paz):

David K, pit captain for Los Campeones racing team 1978-1982, Baja 1000, Baja 500, and Parker 400 (pictured here):

Mickey Thompson breaks his monster motor and shocked sprint car-like off road racer by my pit:

Tom,
It was like riding a rocking chair.:tumble:
Very advanced suspension in its day.
1973 DKW, 125 cc, 6 speed, air cooled, radial sunburst head, clocked 85 MPH on pavement.:O
Great bike when you had a great factory mechanic to get rid of all the neturals in the gear box.

Corky

Great old pics guys!

Corky , that was one bad azz bike (the DKW) in its day.

I was lucky to have a Sacks 125 in 68' with more or less the same front end.

I remember I could easily smoke the 250 enduro's with that thing.

Your right , the trannies weren't real tight.

Near starting line at El Alamo road for the Baja 1000 1989. Me on the left and Richard Large on the bike. Rich and I did the race and it ended with the engine sand papered in the silt beds south of San Ignacio. My one and only run to La Paz.

It was extra gas. We pitted our self and had nearly 75 to 90 or more miles between pits running a 250 two stroke bike. The story on this race was really interesting with Rich broke and riding to San Juanico in a pickup with a couple of Mexicans drinking their vino. He was near drunk when I found him.
